Stanley Cup Roundup: Day 12

In a rough day for the Tri-State Area, as well as the Atlantic Division, a pair of series were extended, and will both go the full 7 games.

WASHINGTON CAPITALS 5, NEW YORK RANGERS 3
(Series tied 3-3)
The game wasn't as close as the score suggests. Washington had a 5-1 lead going into the 3rd, and was up 5-2 until 6 seconds remained and Marc Staal scored a junktime goal. I'd just like to point out how fortunate Washington is that Ovechkin is the darling of the NHL. Known goon Donald Brashear went out of his way to cheap shot Blair Betts with an elbow to the head. The Rangers lost Betts for the game, and after Paul Mara coralled Brashear, there wasn't even a New York power play. Brashear and Mara were given matching minors.

Once a cheap-shotting Flyer piece of shit, always a cheap-shotting Flyer piece of shit.

At the very least, Brashear should have gotten a double minor (roughing AND charging), and I thought a 5 minute major would be appropriate, with a minor to Mara. The Rangers lose a solid penalty killer, and were completely listless after the incident. Credit Washington for taking advantage of good fortune, and discredit New York for collapsing. HOWEVER, give an assist to Brashear and the refs for the cheap shot.

CAROLINA HURRICANES 4, NEW JERSEY DEVILS 0
(Series tied 3-3)
Eric Staal exploded in this game, notching an assist in the 1st period, then scoring twice in the 2nd. Some guy on Versus claimed Carolina had the best home ice advantage in hockey. I don't know about that, but believe it or not, it is a tough place for opponents to play. And once you get a 2 goal lead on the Devils, they have to get more aggressive on offense, which they're not used to, and that opens up a lot of room for counterattacking.

Monday's games:
9:30 PM - Blackhawks @ Flames (Blackhawks lead series 3-2)
10:30 PM - Sharks @ Ducks (Ducks lead series 3-2)
