Stanley Cup Roundup: Day 10

Only one game Friday night as the Capitals faced elimination, but the Rangers couldn't finish them off.

WASHINGTON CAPITALS 4, NEW YORK RANGERS 0
(New York leads series 3-2)
The announcer perfectly described the offensive philosophies of both these teams. If they played football, the Rangers would be three yards and a cloud of dust, and the Capitals would be a high flying spread offense.

Matt Bradley, a role player not known for scoring, had 2 goals in the 1st, one was shorthanded, the other was a bad angle shot that squeezed through Lundqvist. But in the 2nd, it was all about Washington's superstars. Alexander Semin scored off a faceoff, and Alex Ovechkin scored a highlight reel goal, bobbing and weaving through traffic before giving the puck a beautiful release.

Sean Avery didn't play because the Rangers' coach wanted to make a statement. Avery'd been getting far too many penalty minutes (22 in games 3 and 4 combined), and was, well, being Sean Avery. In other words, he was being a twat.

The series will go back to New York, where Washington loses a key edge: last change. In hockey, before a faceoff, the home team gets to sub their players last. So when a guy like Ovechkin is on the ice, you can put on your best defensive players. The Rangers didn't get to do that in the above goal. But in Madison Square Garden, they'll be able to.

Saturday's games:

9:00 PM - Flames @ Blackhawks (Series tied 2-2) - Vs (until 10)
10:00 PM - Ducks @ Sharks (Ducks lead series 3-1) - Vs
