Red Sox 7 Twins 3
The Red Sox just keep rolling. For a lineup that is supposed to be too old, and have too many holes they have just been lighting up the scoreboard lately. In the first game of the doubleheader Boston scored 10 runs, then turned around and scored another 7 that night. The best thing about all this is that it is not just one player that is getting hot, but almost the whole team.
Ellsbury, who was batting well below .200 for much of the beginning of the season, is now batting .270, and starting to look like he might be able to handle that leadoff spot. When he gets on base it makes guys like Youk, Pedroia, and Ortiz just that much more dangerous. Ortiz is yet to hit a HR, but even his batting average has finally got above .200 (.220), so maybe he is finally starting to feel comfortable at the plate.
Boston, much like the first game, did not waste time jumping into control of this game. The Sox scored 7 runs in the first 4 innings to chase Liriano (who is now 0-4) out of the game, which Penny bounced back from a terrible last start to throw 6 innings allowing 3 runs (2 ER) on 6 hits. Can't ask much more from a 5th starter.
So with two wins in 1 day Boston has swept the short series with the Twins, and now have a day off. They will get back at it on Friday when the Yankees come to town.
