Blue Jays @ Red Sox Preview
It was an ugly west coast road trip for the Red Sox, but the good news is that they are back at home, and they will be getting some added help starting tomorrow when Youk comes off the DL. Toronto is 12-5 this month, but has benefited from playing 12 of 17 May games at home. Toronto now starts a 9 game road trip, so this could be Boston's chance to close that 3 1/2 game lead the Jays have over the Sox.
Tonight ageless Tim Wakefield takes on Brian Tallet. Tallet is 2-1 with a 4.98 ERA, but that it is a little deceptive since over the past 3 starts he has only let up 6 runs over 20 innings. he also may prove to be very affective against the Sox since he is a lefty and Ortiz, Ellsbury, and Drew all struggle when facing lefties.
Wakefield, on the other hand, has been terrible over his past three starts letting up 14 runs in a little under 16 innings. He had a great start to the year, but we all knew it would even out. The good news for Wake fans is that you know on any given night he could throw a 7 inning 1 run game.
It will be interesting to see how the Sox rotation hold up against the hot hitting Jays. Boston has shown some signs that their pitching staff may be turning the corner, but that could all be for nothing if the Jays come out and put some early runs on the board.
Game starts at 7:10 on NESN.
