Stanley Cup Roundup: Day 18

WASHINGTON CAPITALS 3, PITTSBURGH PENGUINS 2
(Washington leads series 1-0)
All you'll hear about on SportsCenter is Ovechkin/Crosby, so let's talk about the other heroes of this game. Rookie goaltender Simeon Varlamov stopped 34 of 36 shots for the Caps, and has been a savior since the meltdown of Jose Theodore. Alexander Semin had a pair of assists, as did Nicklas Backstrom. The Penguins were 0 for 5 on the power play, which has been a major failing for them in the playoffs. They're 4 for 38 with a man advantage in this postseason. No point playing hard and drawing penalties if you can't score on the PP

I can't help myself...

CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS 6, VANCOUVER CANUCKS 3
(Series tied 1-1)
Vancouver got their first playoff defeat after taking a 2-0 lead and blowing it. They nearly blew Game 1, but Chicago left no doubt this time. The Hawks scored 3 in the 2nd, and 2 to start the 3rd, turning a 2-0 deficit to a 5-2 route. Patrick Sharp scored twice for Chicago, his 4th and 5th of the postseason.

This series will get crazy when it returns to Chicago.
