Youkilis left the batting cage at 6:20 p.m., and the Red Sox just announced he is now on the disabled list, retroactive to May 5. Youk has been dealing with a deep bruise and tightness in the area surrounding his left oblique since last Monday, and it seems like after trying to swing a bat it only got worse. This is the best thing the Sox can do. It is obvious he needs time to let the bruising, swelling, and pain to subside. I do not think this is a big deal, and I expect him back right when he is available (around May 20th). The injury will obviously hurt the Sox, as Youk has been unreal this year. Hopefully guys like Lowell, Bay, Pedroia (when he is back), and Drew can pull the load till Youk is 100%.
