The Denver Post reported that Atkins, who was counted on to replace Matt Holliday as the Rockies' cleanup hitter, could be facing a demotion to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
That possibility loomed after the Rockies suffered their fourth straight defeat Wednesday night, a 6-4 loss to the Astros. Atkins went 0-for-4 on Wednesday, his average tumbling to .188 (33-for-176). He's 1-for-11 in this series and has not had a multihit game since April 27.
Thank God, my prediction of him coming to the Sox was wrong. I thought this guy was the real deal, but it looks like he falls into my Howie Kendrick, Dallas McPherson category. If you can't hit in Colorado, you can't hit anywhere.
