Red Sox @ Rays Preview
Don't look now, but the Rays might be starting to get on a roll. We all know they are too good to just fall off the map, and they have now moved 1/2 game up on the Sox after winning 2 in a row. Boston has lost 2 straight, but you still have to be impressed with the way they are playing with all these injuries.
Tonight we will see Felix Doubront vs. Jeff Niemann. The Rays will look for a strong outing from Niemann, who is 0-2 with a 3.81 ERA in his last 4 games after starting 6-0 with a 2.48 ERA in his first 12. Niemann allowed 3 runs over 6 2-3 innings Thursday in a 5-4, 10-inning win at Minnesota. He is really one of the most under-appreciated pitchers in the AL, and has pitched at least 6 innings in 15 straight starts. Not too many other pitchers can say that (especially in the AL).
Felix Doubront is 7-2 with a 2.44 ERA in Double- and Triple-A this season. He pitched 1 game for the Sox getting the win, but letting up 5 runs (3 ERs) in 5 innings against the Dodgers. The kid has been good in the minors and I expect a solid outing. Still, the Rays really should win this game.
Rays win 8-5
Player of the Game: Carl Crawford
Game starts at 7:10pm on NESN.
