Red Sox @ A's Preview

The Sox have been absolutely crushed by injuries this year. The good news is that they start getting guys back today. Buchholz is back on the hill to face Gio Gonzalez. Buchholz has been out nice June 26th, but otherwise has had a fantastic season going 10-4 with a 2.45 ERA. Buchholz allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings of a 9-8, 11-inning loss in his only appearance against Oakland last July, but the A's are a terrible hitting team and I think Buchholz is going to be lights out today.

Along with Buchholz the Sox get Jed Lowrie back. People on WEEI are all excited, but I really don't get it. Sure he might be better defensively, but I am not big on this guy and don't think it is that much of an upgrade over Bill Hall.

Anyways, the A's have a guy on the mound who has had a solid year for himself. Gio Gonzalez is 8-6 with a 3.63 ERA. He is a strikeout guy, but can struggle with control at times. If the Sox are patient they should be able to get him out of the game early. Still, he does make me a little nervous since he is 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA in his last 5 starts, and is a lefty. Still, I am taking Clay and the Sox to win today.

Red Sox win 4-1
Player of the Game: Buchholz

Game starts at 3:35pm on NESN.
