Welker, recovering from surgery to repair his ACL and MCL he tore in the final game of the 2009 regular season, is eligible to be removed from the list at any time. The advantage to the team is that it frees up a roster spot (WEEI)."
A lot of people are making a big deal out of this, but it means nothing. It is just a safety net for the Patriots in case Welker isn't ready for the start of the season. What we need to watch for is if he is on this list week 1, because if he is then he is out for the first 6 weeks of the regular season. A player on the preseason PUP can be taken off at any time, and most reports still suggest that Welker will be ready to go week 1.
