Mike Lowell announced today that he will be having his hip surgery Monday, so if the Sox are to make it till then he will not be making any trips. We all knew that there was no chance he was going to be able to play even if the Sox are able to battle back against the Rays and make it into the World Series. So, I am glad that he is doing the smart thing and having the surgery ASAP, instead of hanging with the team. The best thing he could do for the franchise is get healthy, so that he is 100% ready to go for the beginning of the 2009 season. Basically what they have to do is shave down a big bone spur on the top of his femur, which is what is causing all the discomfort in his hip. After the surgery is done, Lowell will be back in Boston to rehab for about a month with team doctors and trainers.
