Remember when you used to call a lame person a Melvin? Man those were the days.
Anyways, the Diamondbacks head coach Bob Melvin has been fired after a slow start. The 47-year-old Melvin's firing comes after a disappointing start by the Diamondbacks, who entered Thursday 8½ games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. Melvin, who went 337-340 in four-plus seasons, had one year left on a contract he received after being the 2007 NL Manager of the Year.
The Diamondbacks overreacted to this completely. He was the manager of the year and 2007 and should have been given at least to the end of the season to address this issue. It isn't his fault that Conor Jackson, Mark Reynolds, Eric Byrnes and Chad Tracy have all started off to a terrible start. Either way, I hate the D-backs for no real reason and wish them nothing but swine flu.
