Dice-K Injury Update

"He has been on the 15-day DL since April 15 because of a mild right shoulder strain. According to MLB.com, he'll likely make one more rehab start before returning to the Red Sox. "I think I'm ready to pitch in a game," Matsuzaka said. "I wouldn't go so far as to say I don't need any rehab starts, but I feel physically ready. I'm ready to go through whatever rehab program is handed to me, so health-wise, I have no problems at all." He said the rest has made a difference. "Compared to my last start in Oakland, in terms of velocity, I felt much better today," Matsuzaka said. "My life on the ball was much better tonight (Sportsline)."

Good news for the Sox here. I think Dice-K pushed himself to early, and just needed some time off. I expect him to be fine when he does return, which I am thinking he is about 2 weeks away. The Sox will take their time with him though, because they have so much depth, and Masterson is pitching well, so there is no rush. It will actually be interesting to see how long the Sox will stick with Penny, especially when Smoltz makes is eventual return.

In other news Buchholz had another great outing in AAA. In 20 innings, he has allowed just four earned runs, striking out 18. It is really amazing the kind of depth the Red Sox have...
