Why Not Play an Outdoor Game in Western Canada?

The NHL announced that Calgary will be hosting ONE of the TWO outdoor games this upcoming season. Apparently, the games will be a doubleheader. And Boston is the heavy favorite to host the other game, with Washington rumored to be the opponent.

I don't like this one bit. The NHL has almost accidentally created something cool for people: an annual outdoor game. And now they'll ruin it. On New Year's Day, people will watch one game of hockey, but I doubt all but the most die-hard hockey fans out there chooses a Calgary Flames game over the Rose Bowl.

And it will also lead to the outdoor games losing their appeal as it becomes less special to see teams playing outside. One game per season and it's special. Two and it loses its specialness.

At least Calgary native Bret Hart will be pleased.
