Tony Battie is wants a buyout if he is not traded. His plan is much along the same lines as P.J. Brown a few years back. He thinks he can go to a team and be a solid bench player that can gobble up rebounds for a contender. Here is what Battie had to say...
"I think I still have some game left in me," Battie told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. "My body feels good. I think on the right team I could be a P.J. Brown-sort of a plug for a contender. Hopefully, I get that opportunity."
If you can remember the Celtics never filled the roster spot of Lester Hudson. Many think that this will be to add a veteran to their bench, much like they did their championship season. I guess the Celtics would have to take a look at Battie if he became available, but I can't say I like it.
First off, I never liked Battie. He always came across soft to me, and there is just something about him that just pisses me off. Saying that, I still think this might not be a bad idea if he can help on the offensive boards. The Celtics are terrible in that regard. I thought Big Baby might be able to pull the same magic he did in last year's playoffs, but he has flat out been awful, so maybe it is time for them to look for another P.J. Brown.
