Red Sox Should Have Beckett Signed Before Season

The Red Sox and Josh Beckett are reportedly very close to signing a long term deal. Most likely it looks a lot like what Lackey got this offseason (five-year, $82.5 million). The question is will Beckett sign a deal that has the provisions that protect the Red Sox in case of injury.? In the Lackey deal there is a clause that says that if he has Tommy John the Red Sox have some wiggle room in the contract. This is the same kind of thing that ran Bay out of town, but it is also in Drew's contract.

At the end of the day I think they will get this done soon, and Beckett will agree to the injury clauses. I know Beckett hasn't been the most consistent guy, but it is hard to find starting pitching of his caliber (ask the Mets), so I would have no problem with him, Lester, and Lackey here for the next 5 years.
