2010 MLB Preview: Philadelphia Phillies
2009 Record: 93-69
Lineup:
1. SS Jimmy Rollins
2. 3B Placido Polanco
3. 2B Chase Utley
4. 1B Ryan Howard
5. RF Jason Werth
6. LF Raul Ibanez
7. CF Shane Victorino
8. C Carlos Ruiz
Phillies scored more runs than anyone in the NL, and their offense didn’t change all that much in the offseason. MVP candidates Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins return to their respective positions, and joining them this year is new 3rd baseman Placido Polanco, who has a career .303 batting average, which is a nice improvement over inconsistent hitting of Pedro Feliz. Overall this should once again be a very strong lineup throughout.
Pitching:
1. Roy Halladay
2. Cole Hamels
3. J.A. Happ
4. Joe Blanton
5. Jamie Moyer
Closer – Brad Lidge
Cliff Lee was amazing for the Phillies, but Roy Halladay is in another league. If he doesn't win 20 games I will be in shock. Hamels needs to bounce back this year, and I have a good feeling he will. Happ finished eighth in the NL with a 2.93 ERA as a rookie and could be better in 2010. Blanton is in a contract year, so he should be good too. Moyer obviously isn't very good, but he had a good spring and won the starting job over Kendrick.
Overall:
This team is going to be very good once again. I think they are by far the best team in the NL, and will once again win the NL East.
2010 Record: 97-65
