2010 MLB Preview: Detroit Tigers
2009 Record: 86-77
Lineup:
1. CF Austin Jackson
2. LF Johnny Damon
3. RF Magglio Ordonez
4. 1B Miguel Cabrera
5. DH Carlos Guillen
6. 3B Brandon Inge
7. 2B Scott Sizemore
8. C Gerald Laird
9. SS Adam Everett
Lots of new faces for the Tigers. Damon is a solid 1 year pickup, and he showed last year he still has something in the old tank. Cabrera is obviously a stud, but after that there are a lot of questions. Jackson, and Sizemore are very good prospects, so they could workout from them. Magglio is really old, and really fell off last year, but I actually think he will be decent this year. Overall this isn't a bad lineup, but it is one that could implode quickly.
Pitching:
1. RHP Justin Verlander
2. RHP Rick Porcello
3. RHP Max Scherzer
4. RHP Jeremy Bonderman
5. LHP Nate Robertson
CL: Jose Valverde
Verlander led the AL in IP, Wins, and Ks, and the two guys behind him are no joke. Porcello is going to be a stud. He went 5-2, 3.07 ERA after Aug. 1 last year, and will build on that. Scherzer is a strikeout machine, so they are all set there. After that I hate this rotation. Bonderman has only 13 starts since '08, and Robertson just blows. I like the Valverde pickup, and think he will fit in nicely with this team.
Overall:
The Tigers had to cut costs a bit, but it didn't hurt them as much as people thought it would. They have a lot of good young talent, the problem is the players around those guys. I see them taking a bit of a step back this year, but not much...
