"Wide receiver Terrell Owens said he’d “definitely be open” to playing for the Patriots. The 36-year-old wide receiver, currently a free agent, told WJMN Radio Wednesday morning that he’d welcome an opportunity to play in New England.
“I’d definitely be open to that,” said Owens, who played with the Bills last season and caught 55 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns.
Owens addressed his critics who believe he’d need to catch a certain amount of passes to be satisfied, saying he’d be like LeBron James and take a lesser role and less money in an attempt to make it work with the Patriots.
“People think that they have that perception about me. Of course. Any receiver ... what receiver that’s out there that’s had great stats, great careers that didn’t want the ball? I’m no different,” Owens said. “But of course — I mean, you’ve got Brady there. You’ve got the great mind, coach Belichick.
“I’m like LeBron. I can go there and take less of a role, take less money and put everything aside and make it work (WEEI).”
I know I am going to take some shit for this, but I am totally up for him joining the Patriots. Having Owens and Moss on either side of the field with Holt, and Welker backing them up would be pretty incredible ( only say Welker as a backup, because I am not sure how is health will be).
Listen, I fucking hate T.O., but I also am no idiot, and this guy is not washed up yet. He played for a terrible team last year, and still put some decent numbers (829 yards 5 TDs), that really isn't that bad considering how awful the Bills were. All I am saying is that you put him on a team where he isn't the #1 target, and a guy like Brady throwing him the ball, and he could have a 1,000+ yards season with 5-8 TDs. Plus, you could probably land him very cheap, since the rest of the league doesn't want to touch him, since he is a "trouble-maker" (but so was Moss and Dillon).
Before we get ahead of ourselves, the Patriots have done nothing to show they have interest in Owens.
