Lightning @ Bruins Preview

Well it looks like Boston leading goal scorer (Kessel) will be missing his third straight game, as he was not there for the morning skate. The good news is that Coach Julien came out and said they expect to have Kessel back later this week, so hopefully they are just resting him, as they are closing in on locking up the #1 seed.

Tonight Boston takes on the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bruins hope this week's three-game homestand will continue to bring them out of their lengthy slump. The Bruins broke their slump with two wins over the weekend. Still there are some glaring weaknesses showing from the Bruins. Thomas had to make 45 saves in Sunday night's 4-3 victory at Philadelphia. Boston is going to need to play a lot better defense if they are going to do anything in the playoffs, but at least their offense is waking up and Thomas continues to be hot.

Right now you have to love the play of Recchi, Krecji, and Lucic. I point these three out because they each bring a different way to produce offense. Recchi has been unstoppable on the powerplay. Krecji is making everyone around him better with his passing, and playmaking ability. Lucic is crashing the net, and making the big hits. These guys are a lot of the reason for the Bruins success over the weekend.

Tampa Bay just wants this season to be over. They are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, and the Bruins should be able to skate all over this team. Hopefully Boston will take care of business, and wrap up the Eastern Conference ASAP.

Game is tonight at 7pm on NESN.

A Joke To Brighten Your Day

A kindergarten teacher one day is trying to explain to her class the definition of the word "definitely" to them. To make sure the students have a good understanding of the word, she asks them to use it in a sentence. The first student raised his hand and said "The sky is definitely blue". The teacher said, "Well, that isn't entirely correct, because sometimes it's gray and cloudy".

Another student says, "Grass is definitely green." The teacher again replies "If grass doesn't get enough water it turns brown, so that isn't really correct either."

Another student raises his hand and asks the teacher "Do farts have lumps?" The teacher looked at him and said "No...But that isn't really a question you want to ask in class discussion." So the student replies, "Then I definitely shit my pants."

B.J. Ryan No Longer Jays' Closer?

"Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston would not confirm that struggling reliever B.J. Ryan would begin the season as his closer, the Globe and Mail reported. "There's still some concerns about him," Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said of Ryan, whose earned-run average is 9.00 through seven innings in eight preseason games. Ryan has also allowed seven runs and seven walks. Gaston was asked if his concerns might mean that Ryan, who insists his arm feels 100 per cent, will not leave with the team when it heads north, that he will stay behind to try to work out his problems during extended spring training. "We haven't made that decision yet," Gaston said. "His arm doesn't hurt him so if you move him out of that spot, maybe you put him somewhere else for a while and go from there, see if it improves for him (ESPN)."

They Jays just can't seem to catch a break. Wells gets a big contract, and has never been the same. They lock up Rios, and he hasn't turned into the player they thought he would be (though still decent). Now Ryan who battled back from Tommy John surgery to have a solid season in 2009 looks to be on his way out of a job. He is only throwing about 87 MPH right now, and that is way under what he used to throw (93-95). I always like Ryan, and it would really be too bad for his career to end this way, but it does not look like he is going to get his mojo back anytime soon.

Kevin Garnett Out For Year?

"A knee injury will keep Celtics forward Kevin Garnett out until three games remain in the regular season. "After watching him move today, we're just going to shut him down," Rivers said. "It probably won't be for the year. He'll probably play by the end, last couple of games or last three games. It's just not progressing the way we anticipated it would progress (ESPN)."

It is exactly as I feared. They are not saving him for the playoffs. They are truly worried that he might be done. This is Celtics' last hope to have him back for the playoffs. If his knee does not respond then he will be out for the rest of the year. I think most people would agree with me that the Celtics have no shot at winning the championship without KG, and what about after that. The Big Three come back again another year older....I am depressing myself. Hopefully his knee will respond to the time off, and he can be at least somewhat ready for the playoffs. We will keep you updated as we learn more....

A-Rod Rehab Update

"Alex Rodriguez is making progress in rehab after hip surgery and within two weeks could move his workouts from Colorado to the Yankees' spring training complex. GM Brian Cashman said Tuesday a firm date for the switch to Tampa, Fla., is not set. But he said the latest it would be is April 13 (Sportsline)."

Right now the projection is that A-Rod will return May 15th. Once he is back in Florida participating in baseball activities and appearing in extended spring training games, it might be only a couple of weeks before he is ready to be activated. The worry is that he may still need another surgery after this year, but will he last that long. The hip injury (which is why I am worried about Lowell) can be very hard to come back from. It will be really interesting to see if A-Rod, who will have to deal with a media storm via steroids, will be able to handle the pressure, and get back physically. He never did well dealing with the pressure of the playoffs, so maybe this is going to be the beginning of the end for his dominance.

We shall see.....

Cheating Husband Caught By Google

"A furious British wife has called in divorce lawyers after spotting her husband's car parked outside another woman's house — on Google. She saw the Range Rover while using the Internet giant's new Street View service to snoop on a female friend's home. The hubby had claimed he was away on business, but his missus recognized his SUV immediately because of its blinged-up hubcaps. The love cheat is not the only husband trapped by Google's controversial new 360-degree photo search, which covers 25 cities and towns throughout Britain (FoxNews)."

Ok this has gone far enough. It is fucking ridiculous that you can basically just spy on a person's house through the Internet. Next thing you know the police will be raiding a house because they spot an underage kid drinking, or a guy smoking a joint outside through Google. It has just gone too far, and it actually just makes people lazier. The woman can't go on the hunt to find out what her man is up to. No...instead she puts her fat ass is a chair and clicks through google, which is probably why he was cheating the first place.

Stop snitchin' Google!

Kessel Injury Update

The Bruins are turning into the Patriots when it comes to releasing information about injuries. They still will not say what is wrong with Kessel, but there are some reports leaking out that he was seen walking through the dressing room at Ristuccia Arena with a wrap on his shoulder following an off-ice workout. So, my guess is that it is a shoulder injury that probably dates back to the big hit he took almost 2 weeks ago. With that being said, I do not see this injury as serious. I think the Bruins are very confident that they are going to secure the #1 seed soon, and they are resting players who are banged up (much like the Celtics, hopefully). We will let you know if he is going to play tonight in our Bruins vs. Lightning preview later on today.

Brad Penny Is The Man

"But after her diamond in the rough time with Zito, Milano took the oath "(swearing) off baseball players," but soon the sweet science of Penny's curve ball melted her chilly heart.

Alyssa's steamy book revealed that when Penny, who was a Dodger, first seduced her he insisted she wear his LA jersey to the boudoir." NE

Wearing sports jerseys to bed is one of the hottest things a girl can do. Brad Penny is obviously the man.

Braves Give Chipper Jones Extension

"Chipper Jones will have the opportunity to remain with the Braves throughout his career. The Braves and Jones have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension worth more than $40 million that includes an option for 2013. The Braves will announce the deal during a news conference at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon (MLB.com)."

You have to have a lot of respect for a guy who played his entire career with 1 team. The .364 batting average he recorded last year was so close to beating the .365 mark Mickey Mantle recorded while setting the record for switch-hitters in 1957. There are a lot of concerns for me here though, as he is only averaging 124 games over the past three seasons, and he is now 41 years old. Still, I have a lot of respect for this move, and I think it is extremely classy of this organization to let him play out his career with the Braves (though $40 million is a lot).

Mother Of The Year Award Nominee

"An eight-months pregnant Fort Wayne woman was arrested early Saturday morning for drinking and driving, her second such arrest in 2009, state police said in a news release today.

Originally stopped for driving without head- or taillights around 4 a.m. Saturday morning, Molly E. Gram, 21, had a “strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech,” said Sgt. Ron Galaviz of the Indiana State Police’s Fort Wayne District.

Gram failed several field sobriety tests and a portable breath test, but Galaviz said he only knew she tested above 0.08, the legal limit in Indiana. She later refused a chemical alcohol test for intoxication. Galaviz didn’t know where or why Gram had allegedly been drinking that evening." IndyStar

What is wrong with people today? I get that not drinking the whole time when you're pregnant must suck, but c'mon. 8 months? That is absurd. They should probably let the baby be born than shoot the mother.

Florida Douche Bag Goes Pro

Florida guard Nick Calathes will declare for the NBA draft but will not hire an agent, leaving open the option to return for his junior year. Calathes earned First-Team All-SEC honors from both the league coaches and Associated Press, averaging a team-high 17.2 points per game and a UF-record 6.4 assists per contest. He was the only player in the nation to average better than 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game on the year. Calathes sucked in my mind, and will be a second rounder in this years draft. If he stayed a third year he would be a definite first rounder. he has good size for a guard but I don't know if his weight will translate to the NBA.

and speaking of guys who were O.K. in college and are going pro Georgetown junior DaJuan Summers is skipping his senior year and declaring himself eligible for the NBA draft. He could turn into a Donyell Marshall type of player, but I have a feeling he will fall flat on his face.

Guy Gets DUI Without Leaving A Barstool

Police say that Kile Wygle, 28, had one too many before wheeling his homemade oddity around the neighborhood on March 4.

Wygle was charged with driving the bar stool while under the influence of alcohol and driving while under suspension. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and asked for a jury trial. No court date has been set.

According to a report by Officer Michael Trotter, Wygle told him that his bar stool can reach a speed of 38 mph but that he was traveling only about 20 mph when he wrecked.TCD

This is amazing and is a hero to all men. Sure getting a DUI blows, but getting one while riding a barstool drunk kind of rocks. This is an amazing invention and I hope I one day get busted for riding a barstool drunk.

A Reading From The Book Of Rajon

This reading has been from the book of I'm baaaaacccckkkk...
It has been a long time...and I do apologize for it. I've been away from the yard for a while-not purposely, of course. It's just that the past couple of months have been very busy for me. We were on the road for almost all of February, and we have been on the road a lot this month too. It seems like all I've done for the past two months is travel, and when I wasn't traveling I was either doing appearances or trying to spend time with my family. My little girl is getting soo big, and she has to be the smartest baby in the world (yes, I'm partial). She is saying and doing everything-her favorite thing to do is to play ring around the rosey (she knows all the words).

I know yall want to know what's been going on, and I'm sorry to say that the only thing that we've been focusing on is finishing out the regular season strong and trying to get everyone healthy. It seemed like injuries were contagious on our team for a while. First it was TA, then Scal, then KG, then me, then Baby, and then Leon. I just pray that the injuries are over, and everyone gets back healthy soon. We only have a few more regular season games, and we need everyone for the playoffs. As far as my ankles, they are better. Just to be cautious, I still get treatment on them every day. I get taped real good before the games, so I'm pretty coo. I would have to say that I'm ready for the playoffs-it seems like the season went by fast this year.

I know a lot of you have been tuning into the NCAA tournament. I haven't been able to watch many of the games because of my schedule, but I do know that a lot of people's brackets are messed up because of surprise wins and losses. I think Louisville's loss shocked a lot of people. Even though I am a UK boy, I still like to see any home team do well. I was hoping that they made it, but it didn't work out that way. Speaking of UK, I was surprised to hear that they let Billy G go. What are your thoughts about the tournament?

Let me know what you think about what has been going on in the sports world, and I promise I will be back to the yard soon. I'll holla!

Rondo be with you.

Mike Vick Thinks Mike Vick Can Make 10 Mil A Year

"The embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback is hoping to earn as much as $10 million a year or more, according to court filings in his bankruptcy case. Under the plan he submitted to the court, Vick would keep the first $750,000 of his annual income over the next five years. After that, a percentage would go to his creditors based on a sliding scale."

Hmmmm, let's think about this one Mike. You haven't played football in a long time, you weren't THAT good to begin with, the reason you weren't playing football is because you were in jail for FIGHTING DOGS and KILLING THEM, and Roger Goodell hasn't even let you back into the league. So Mike, let me ask you this. Why the fuck would anyone give a asshole, mediocre football player 10 million a year? This doesn't surprise me at all to tell you the truth, just like when Vick went into jail, he still thinks he is above the league, and hasn't learned anything. If anything he should appreciate being in the league and not getting paid. Fuck Vick and Goodell should do the right thing and not let him back in the league.

Tigers Cut Sheffield

"Gary Sheffield's milestone 500th career home run will have to come with a different team. The Tigers released the longtime slugger on Tuesday, a surprising roster move and a potential end to what may ultimately be a Hall of Fame career. Sheffield said he was told by manager Jim Leyland and president/general manager Dave Dombrowski that the team wanted to go with a more versatile lineup. The Tigers did not envision Sheffield playing any position other than designated hitter (MLB.com)."

At first I was kind of surprised when I read this, but it actually makes a lot of sense. Leyland and Sheffield have not got along since Leyland made Sheffield a DH. The Tigers will now be eating a lot of salary has they have to pay $14 million to Sheff this year. To be honest going into this year I thought the man with the scariest swing I have ever seen would have a shot at a comeback season, but this could be the end for him. Not a lot of teams are going to want to pickup this guy. He has a bad attitude, declining skills, and has been somewhat involved in steroid scandals. Too bad for a guy so close to 500 HRs.

Calipari Officially A Wildcat

(AP/WHAS11) - WHAS11 News has learned that Memphis coach, John Calipari, has decided to take the offer to be the new University of Kentucky basketball coach. It is said that Calipari took a 8 years deal worth 35 million dollars.

As a Kentucky fan, I am stoked about this. Calipari is going to come in and bring a whole basketball team with him. He has the recruiting ability to get the best players year after year. Expect Kentucky to win the SEC next year, and a national title in two years.

Daily Red Sox Spring Training Update

Braves 4 Red Sox 3

- Dice-K pitched his first and last spring training game this year against the Braves. It was decent, as Dice-K allowed two hits and an earned run over five innings. He says he is ready to go as the #3 guy in the Red Sox rotation.

- Rocco Baldelli hit a 2 run HR, as he batted leadoff. Hopefully this will get him going as he is only hitting .194 this spring training.

- The Sox looked OK. They basically lost because they pitched a bunch of nobodies after Dice-K, so overall the Sox are looking more and more ready for the season to start. Though I would like to see a little more offense out of them.

Other Notes:

- The Sox are starting to round out their opening day roster. They appear to be leaning toward the lefthanded-hitting Chris Carter over the righthanded-hitting Jeff Bailey for the final position spot on the 25-man roster. Carter would give manager Terry Francona two lefthanded hitters (Carter, George Kottaras) to go along with two righthanded hitters (Green, Rocco Baldelli) on his bench when the season begins. Carter is batting .359 with 10 RBIs and a team-leading six home runs this spring.

- Nick Green from every report I have read will make the team until Lugo is back. He will be the utility infielder.

So if all of this information is correct, and Penny is ready to take the #5 spot in the rotation here is what the Sox roster will look like to open the season...

STARTING LINEUP
(L) Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
(R) Dustin Pedroia, 2B

BENCH

The Sox play their last home spring training game today against the Rays at 1:05pm.

Carson's Arm Is 100 Percent

All he needs to do now, is find a wide receiver.

The reason I decided to write this post is because it deals with the AFC North and could affect the Steelers. However, I have never believed in Palmer and put him in that vaunted "overrated" category. Every year, this guy is supposed to be this ridiculous QB that takes his team out the basemen in the AFC North and bring them to the promise land, and every year he disappoints. Given he has had a series of terrible injuries, to me, he just doesn't have it. He is another overrated USC player. Also, who knows what is going to happen with Ocho Cinco, and now that T.J. is gone he is going to have a hard time throwing to anyone they get. If I were the Bengals, Crabtree has to come here if he is still on board.

Why Not?

Why not watch Iron Man verse Bruce Lee?

AP All-America First Team Announced

Today the Associated Press released their annual All-America team. Oklahoma's Blake Griffin was the only unanimous selection this year, which is no surprise to anyone who watched a lick of college basketball this season. UNC senior, Tyler Hansbrough made the first team All-America squad for his second straight year. Without further a due, the rest of the All-America team.

Stephen Curry (Davidson)- 28.6 ppg, 5.6 apg

Dejuan Blair (Pittsburgh)- 15.6 ppg, 12.2 rpg

James Harden (Arizona State)- 20.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg

Blake Griffin (Oklahoma)- 21 ppg, 14.3 rpg

Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina)- 20.9 ppg, 8.1 rpg

So I leave it to you, fans of the couch, who will be the best NBA player out of this squad of college juggernauts?

A Flying Hotel?

"In what has to be one of the most extravagant uses of current technology Hotelicopter has created the worlds first flying hotel, which also happens to be the worlds largest helicopter (NuCult.com)."

Are you fucking shitting me? I would not go near this thing if you paid me. Honeslty is there anyway that this thing won't be the next Titanic? Except it will be the air...yea, no swimming from this disaster. Anyways, it has a maximum speed of 158 mph, a range of 700 miles, which is damn impressive for a flying hotel (I guess).

I never liked the thought of being in a helicopter. Something about just a blade going really fast as the only thing keeping me from nose diving to the ground never sat well with me...but that's just me.

Smoltz Is So Awesome

"Smart man, John Smoltz. While the Red Sox are here playing extra innings against his former team, Smoltz is teeing it up with Tiger Woods (Boston.com)."

Smoltz is so fucking cool. Not only has he been a nasty pitcher for what seems like forever now, he also regularly plays golf with Tiger Woods. Oh yea... Smoltz also says that one day he will beat him, and you know what I believe him. Only Smoltz would come out and declare that he will one day beat the best golfer of all time (who just came back from 5 strokes down to win the Bay Hill Invitational). Anyways, I think it is awesome that those two are friends...

MLB Prospects Getting Deported?

"Commissioner Bud Selig has given Major League Baseball's security division an open checkbook in an attempt to clean up off-field scandals in the Dominican Republic and other foreign countries. Major League Baseball has officers in the Dominican Republic who are cooperating with the FBI in at least two major scandals implicating the Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals involving falsified birth records, kickback scandals and smuggling of performance-enhancing drugs that evaded security -- and former Sen. George Mitchell's investigation into the use of PEDs in MLB -- until recently (ESPN)."

If I was an owner I would be all for this. We have seen time and again players lying about their age, which helps them get better contracts. It seems that the Nationals, and White Sox are in the middle of this scandal. What remains to be seen is if they will actually go as far as to deport these players. Steroids are also playing a major part in this, as more and more players from DR are getting caught with steroids (or at least thought to be involved). It will be interesting to see if this will affect the number of foreign born players that will be signed by MLB teams.

Also, DP better hope his boy Dayan isn't involved....

Lackey's Season In Trouble

"The Angels are "encouraged" by the latest MRI results on John Lackey's right elbow and expect their ace to be on the mound for them by the end of April or early May, general manager Tony Reagins said Monday. Lackey received a cortisone shot in his right elbow last week in an attempt to relieve the pain in his ailing arm (ESPN)."

Maybe I am wrong, but I really think Lackey is going to miss most if not all of this season. He has already had to get a shot in his elbow, and has been feeling discomfort there all during spring training. Lackey has been able to battle back from stuff like this before, as he did last season, but my gut is telling me that he really is going to have a problem with that elbow. If that is the case you can basically take the Angels out of any serious contention of doing anything.

Daily Red Sox Spring Training Update

- There are some rumors going around that Boston is fielding calls about Manny Delcarmen. He is not happy about his reduced role, which should be even further reduced by the amount of depth the Sox have this year in the bullpen. Gammons lists the following teams as having interest Angels, Diamondbacks, Cubs, White Sox, Rockies, Royals, Brewers, A's, Padres, Giants, Mariners, and Rangers. Not sure how true this is, but if it is true Boston could be looking for a catcher, draft picks, or some kind of depth in the infield/outfield. This is just a rumor, but something to keep an eye on.

- Tazawa has quietly had an incredible spring training. In his last Triple A start, Junichi Tazawa threw only three balls in three innings. Maybe he is a lot closer to the big leagues then people thought...

- Francona has not officially announced his batting order for opening day, but it looks like Drew will be hitting 5, Bay with be 6th, and Lowell 7th. Personally I would rather have Bay at 5, but whatever.

- Jon Lester pitched five solid innings and Chris Carter hit his sixth home run of spring training, sending the Boston Red Sox over the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 Sunday.

- Brad Penny gave up two runs in four innings Saturday and Boston beat the Minnesota Twins 9-4. Penny allowed four hits in his second exhibition start. He threw 68 pitches, 46 for strikes.

Kevin Garnett Injury Update

If you are like DP and I then you are starting to get worried about this whole KG injury thing. Well here is the latest...

As expected, Kevin Garnett sat out last night’s game against Oklahoma City at the Garden with continued soreness in his right knee. Celtics coach Doc Rivers expects the All-Star forward also to miss Wednesday’s game against the Bobcats, with a return more likely Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks. Asked if Garnett’s condition has required more tests by the Celtics medical staff, Rivers shook his head. “No,” Rivers said. “He’ll be getting it checked all the time as he goes on, but it’s just sore. We’re fine with what we know. I doubt if he plays Wednesday. He’s likely for Friday, but that depends on how he moves in practice, and that’s probably going to be on Thursday. “There’s no sense in having him practice (tomorrow) if he’s not playing Wednesday. What we’re looking for with him is better movement and less soreness. I got by his gait. I just watch him run, and you can tell (Boston Herald).”

The Celtics are running out of games to get KG back on track, and it is not a good sign if he is having soreness after only playing part time for 4 games. The hope is that the Celtics are just trying to get him as much rest as possible, but I am past buying that as an excuse. I think there is something seriously wrong here, and I am just not sure how much KG is going to be able to play from this point forward. For the Celtics' sake I hope I am wrong, but this really worries me.

BU and Vermont in Frozen Four

It's as if the players in the hockey tournament wanted to make up for the lack of upsets in the basketball tournament. 1 seeds Michigan and Notre Dame beaten in the opening rounds. Bemdiji State (that's in northern Minnesota) crushes Notre Dame 5-1, then vanquishes perennial powerhouse Cornell. Miami (Ohio), another 4 seed, beats Denver and winds up in the last 4. Overtimes, comebacks, late goals, upsets, and a Frozen Four with only one 1 seed in the mix.

Some highlights:

Cornell's late game winning goal against Northeastern:

UNH's late game dramatics to beat North Dakota:

BU survived New Hampshire and seem to be Fortune's favorite in this tournament. They're the only 1 seed left, and they play Vermont a week from Thursday night (the hockey tournament always takes a week off, they know the basketball tourney is the main event this upcoming weekend). In a battle of 4 seeds, Bemidji State takes on Miami (Ohio). BU's path to their 5th national title, but Vermont beat them 2 of 3 this season.

The Frozen Four is not this weekend, but the next, and is being played in Washington, DC. Why is it in DC, where the closest college hockey team is Princeton? Who knows.

Prediction: BU rolls over Vermont, then Miami (Ohio) for title #5.
