Marc Savard should have been on a plane to Toronto today, instead he has just been cleared to head back to Boston. All of this because Matt Cooke blind-sided Savard in what I would call a dirty hit. Apparently Coach Julien agrees with me...
“A guy like that has to be suspended,’’ Julien said of Cooke. “That’s the way I see it, because it’s an elbow to the head from the blind side. That’s exactly the examples they show of what we’ve got to get out of this game. We have a guy who’s got a concussion. Our best player. He’s going to be out for a while. He was [unconscious] on the ice for a bit. That’s unacceptable.’’
It is unacceptable, and it was uncalled for. We have already had to go through this with Bergeron, and now our best player is out again. There has been a black cloud over this season, and it doesn't seem to be going away.
The latest is that Savard was feeling well enough to fly back to Boston where he can get more medical attention. NHL rules state that he must miss at least the next 3 game, but I have a feeling that Savard could be out for a long time.
Here is the hit, you make the call...
In my eyes it's like football, no blows to the head, and to me it looks like he went right for it. On the up side it gives me yet another reason to hate the Penguins.
