The Sox have taken the first two games of this series, and it couldn't come at a better time. While the Angels are stuck in their worst losing streak of the season, and this time they don't have their "ace" to fall back on, because he now resides in Boston.
Lackey takes the hill tonight against his former team, while the Angels counter with Joel Pineiro. Personally, I think Pineiro blows, and it was a huge mistake for him to come back to the AL (2-3 5.76 ERA). Pineiro has given up 16 runs and 21 hits over 9 1/3 innings in his last 2 starts. He surrendered a career-high 10 runs in 3 1/3 innings of Friday's 10-6 loss at Detroit.
Lackey has been solid, but not dominant thus far in Boston. The right-hander has yielded 3 runs or fewer in 4 of his 5 starts, but opponents are hitting .307 off him. Still, you know he is going to be amped up for this game, so I expect a gem out of him.
As always it will come down to whether or not Boston can score some runs. Since I have no faith in Pineiro what-so-ever I think Boston takes another game from the Angels.
Sox win 6-2
