Mariners @ Red Sox Preview
Since there was a rainout yesterday the Sox will play a doubleheader today. Here is the preview for the 1st game...
If the Red Sox are going to have any chance at making the playoffs they are going to need better outing from Josh Beckett and John Lackey. They got one out of Lackey last night, now it's Beckett's turn.
Beckett's current ERA is 6.67, there isn't much else to say other then he has been a complete bust, and he certainly isn't earning that new deal the Sox gave him. There is some hope (for tonight at least), as Beckett has a 1.62 ERA in 5 starts against Seattle, who ranks last in the majors in batting average (.237) and runs (411). Basically if Beckett can't get it done today, then he isn't going to get it done this year.
Facing Beckett is a familiar face in David Pauley. The Red Sox traded him to Baltimore before last season, and let me tell you don't be fooled by his decent 3.70 ERA, he is fucking terrible. He doesn't throw hard, and the Sox should blow the doors off him at Fenway (he struggled in four appearances at Fenway Park while with Boston, going 0-2 with an 11.57 ERA).
I usually don't pick the Red Sox for day games, but Pauley blows and the Sox have to take advantage.
Red Sox win 12-4
Player of the Game: V-Mart
Game starts at 1:35pm on NESN.
