Who Wouldn't Get A DUI For A Potential BJ?

I wasn't going to write anything more for tonight and let New Years run its course, however, this was too good to pass up:
According to the officer who wrote the report, "He told me that he ran the stop sign because he was in a hurry to pick up the girl I saw get in the passenger seat."

The officer continues: "He asked me to admit that she was 'hot.' He asked me, 'You want the truth?' When I told him I did he said, 'I was gonna drive around the corner and get a b**w job. He then explained that she had given him a 'b**w job' one week earlier and said it was the best one he had ever had in his life."

The report says when Barkley was taken to the station, he told one of the employees, "I'll tattoo my name on your ass" if he helped "get him out of the DUI." According to the report, "He laughed and then quickly corrected himself and said, 'I'll tattoo your name on my ass' and then laughed again."

The report also says officers "found a handgun in the vehicle" which was immediately impounded. The report doesn't say if the handgun was legal or not, and the only thing that we know for sure was loaded...

I mean c'mon america, you have to let this guy off the hook. He was at least honest. At least he took the whole situation very seriously also.

16 Vandy, 14 BC

Hahahahaha! It is appropriate that they lost in the Gaylord Bowl. BC lost to a team who lost 6 straight in the regular season and hasn't made it to a bowl game since 1982 and hasn't won a bowl game since the 50's. This snaps an 8 game fluff bowl win streak, and I am never so happy. I feel bad for the players but I don't feel bad for all the douchebags that go to BC and pretend to be fans. Oh yea, hardly any Boston College fans went due to their 1,500 tickets left (that is all of BC's portion).

Fuck You BC.

Why Not

Cubs Trade DeRosa To Indians

"The Indians didn't have the money to fill their infield with an attractive free-agent candidate, but they did have the arms in their farm system to pull off an impactful trade. The Tribe acquired infielder Mark DeRosa from the Cubs in a New Year's Eve swap that sends Minor League right-handers Jeff Stevens and Chris Archer and left-hander John Gaub to the Cubs. With that, the Indians have filled the glaring hole in their infield with a versatile defender and productive bat (MLB.com)."

I like this trade for the Indians, since they could use another bat, and it could solidify their infield. I don't know much about the pitching prospects that they gave up, but from what I have read none of them seem to be top tier prospects. DeRosa is coming off a career year in which batted .285 with 30 doubles, three triples, 21 homers and 87 RBIs in 149 games. He notched career-highs in on-base percentage (.376), homers, RBIs, walks (69) and runs scored (103). I don't know if he will be able to keep up those kinds of numbers, but I don't think he will be too far off. Most likely he will play 3rd so that they Indians don't have to move around their infield.

DC Reader Coobs is Pissed

With a rant like this, how couldn't I put it up? Oh yea, and well my hatred for Tony Allen may have led me to release this...

Tony Allen is a fucking turnover machine. I am so frustrated watching him play, because it doesn't matter how much talent or upside the guy might have, he always seems to find a way to fuck up. He does not run smoothly with the offense at all; he catches a pass, ducks his head down, and hopes for the best. And on top of that, he is one of the worst finishers around the rim. He tries to hard to draw a foul and I'm sorry TA, you are not a fucking superstar so you aren't gonna get that fucking call.

Now about the game last night, I almost threw my remote through the screen I was so pissed. The whole first quarter was a rough, old-school style of physical basketball and I was pumped because that's the type of game the Celtics lure teams into playing. Then suddenly in the 2nd quarter whistles are being blown every 15 seconds. I swear there was one possession where the refs made 4 foul calls, 3 of which were off the ball. But yet this was all occurring now on the Celts' defensive end. Now I hate bitching about referees, because what comes around goes around, but it was fucking ridiculous that they changed the whole flow of the game on a whim like that. Not to mention allowing a basket to count when there are SIX FUCKING PLAYERS on the court. Like, seriously? How does that even make any fucking sense? That's right, it doesn't.

Lastly, the Celtics aren't going to get better unless they start playing more selfishly. That's right I said it. I know Rondo is your boy DP and I love him as well, but he needs to stop driving to within 3 feet of the rim and kicking it out to behind the arc. Especially on fast breaks. Just take the ball strong to the hole like EVERY team does against our defense. PP had a great 2nd half last nite but he needs to start playing with a little passion in the beginning of these games. Ray Ray needs to look for his shot more, and not just settle for pull-up 3's. He still has the guile to get a step on his man and lord knows he can drain a jumper from anywhere inside the arc. KG is showing signs of promise by posting up more, but it seems like he only does so when he is pissed at whoever is covering him (a la Lamarcus Aldrige). And on top of that, he seems to want to dish to Perk more than try to finish by himself, which is worthless because Perk's hands are about as coordinated as his feet. He has been improving with getting the ball up quicker but once you stick a man between him and the basket and he starts pulling that turnaround hook shot out of his ass, I start getting pissed. Perk, you are a moose, learn some god damn footwork and take it strong.

Alas, this message is ridiculously long because I am ridiculously pissed about that game last night. I'm not worried about setting records or the season in the long run, but right now I'm fucking livid because these 3 games we have lost were all winnable games that we just fell apart in the 4th quarter. I don't like that sign. Let's face it, our bench sucks. Powe is the only glimmer I see on it, and he is just overmatched down low by size. Eddie, I love you to death, but you don't have to shoot it every time you touch the ball. There might be other people open. Here's to another blowout hopefully on Friday night against the Wiz so I can relocate my sanity.

Why Not?

Why not watch a big titted woman make a salad?

Fuentes To Angels

The Angels and left-hander Brian Fuentes have agreed to a two-year contract, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Fuentes, 33, saved 30 games for the Colorado Rockies last season with a 2.73 ERA in 62 2/3 innings. ESPN

I don't get this signing. I believe Jose Arredondo would have been more than capable to close the games for the Angels.(Plus he was going to be one of my secret guys in fantasy baseball) Fuentes is Ok, but I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. Mark my words, I guarentee this is the worst signing in the off season.

More On the Failed Hanley Ramirez Deal

According to the Providence Journal "Ramirez was part of the package the Red Sox sent to Florida in November 2005 for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell. His defense at shortstop has been erratic and many scouts think the Marlins eventually will shift him to the outfield. SI.com reported the Red Sox would have shifted Ramirez to center field if they’d completed the trade".

The deal is being categorized as dead, but this is an interesting little report. Hanely has been a little bit of a question mark at SS, and the Sox really like having a strong defensive infield, so I think this may have been very true. I think with Ramirez's speed he would have had no problem moving to CF.

Weekly Real Life SuperHero: Entomo

As I said yesterday when I introduced RazorHawk to the world, there is actually a group of "SuperHeroes". Today's is Entomo...enjoy.

Category:Crime-fighting/Environmentalist/Detective

Activity Level: Unconfirmed

Identity: Secret

Notoriety: Medium

Arch Enemy: None

Region: Italy

Organization: Theta Force

Entomo patrols the streets of Naples and promotes environmental awareness.

"A stylized SIGMA is my symbol. SIGMA, because I sum up all the powerful, silent and venomous small creatures inhabiting this world. SIGMA, because I'm a synthesis, the human-like swansong of millions of races. I employ my faculties in saving what is left to save and destroying what doesn't fit in the bigger scheme of equilibrium. I strike the right web lines in people's minds, infusing morality into the body of corruption. From investigation to crime fighting to activism, I stand for the biggest conundrum of the known universe: balance between enthalpy and entropy. To be a Real Life Superhero is truly the greatest deed a man can accomplish in a backwards world like this, where fiction is truer to reality than reality itself. On the other hand, the chance to fight for such a stunning planet is too significant to be turned down. Hear my buzz, fear my bite: I inject justice (Entomo). "

Oh man people are crazy.

Mets Offer Lowe 3 Year Deal

"The Mets are moving along negotiations with Derek Lowe, reportedly with a three-year offer in the $36 million range for the free-agent pitcher (Sportsline)."

Scott Boras is looking to get Lowe a 4 or 5 year deal for about $15 million a year, and I think he will get it. Like I said before I really think this would be a good fit for Lowe and the Mets. Lowe is a very solid NL starter, and the Mets really need to do something to solidify that rotation. The Mets have already made move to improve their bullpen (K-Rod, Putz), so if they are able to add Lowe they could be in very good shape for next season (since their lineup is very dangerous). I think the Mets will eventually cave and give Lowe the 4 year deal for about $55 million.

42 Oregon, 31 Oklahoma State

This is my first big surprise of the bowl season this year. Oklahoma State has battled Big 12 teams all year, while Oregon had a pretty fluff Pac 10 schedule. If anything, I was way more confident about this game than a majority of the other bowl games. However, Oregon and quarterback Jeremiah Masoli stomped on my predictions. Masoli (who started the season as the third qb on the depth chart) ran all over the OK State defense for 106 yards and three touchdowns, while throwing for one more. OK State couldn't stop the run all game leading Oregon to amass 307 yards and 5 Tds. Meanwhile surprising quarterback Zac Robinson threw for 329 yards with 1 TD, but they couldn't get anything going on the ground. And look out for Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant set Holiday Bowl records with 13 catches for 167 yards I have a feeling his performance put him the elite WR's thatmay be in this year or next years draft.

Jerod Mayo: Defensive Rookie of the Year

Jerod mayo ran away with the Associated Press 2008 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award today. He was able to get 49 out of the 50 possible votes for the award. Mayo really excelled on a defense that was questionable, at best, for most of the year, by leading the Patriots with 137 tackles. With a lot of players on the Patriots near, or at, the end of their career, it is nice to see a guy that will be here for years to come. Mayo, I think, has a really good chance to be one of the best MLBs in the game. He was able to fit in very fast with a defense that runs one of the more complex schemes in the NFL. I didn't know what to think when they drafted this guy, but it showed once again that Scott Pioli knows what he is doing. Another reason I think he might jump ship on the Patriots this offseason.

USA's Craziest Laws

FoxNews recently let out a list of the USA's craziest laws, take a look....

1. In Billings, Mont., it is illegal for anyone to sell, harbor or give away rats as pets or toys for any purpose other than to feed snakes or birds of prey. Scientists, however, can keep lab rats.

2. Using profanity is against the law on playgrounds and in public parks in Columbia, Md.

3. The last Sunday in June each year is Log Cabin Day in Michigan.

4. In Michigan, it is legal to kill a dog for attacking chickens, livestock or people, but you can't snuff the pooch in a high altitude decompression chamber or by electrocution.

5. In West Virginia, anyone who taunts someone who decides not to participate in a duel or who declines to accept a challenge is guilty of a misdemeanor and can be sent to jail for up to six months and fined up to $100.

6. In Kentucky it is illegal to sell, exchange, offer to sell or exchange, display, or possess living baby chicks, ducklings, or other fowl or rabbits that have been dyed or colored. It is also illegal to dye or color baby chicks, ducklings, fowl or rabbits. And unless they are at least two months old, the aforementioned animals must be sold in batches of six.

7. At shooting ranges in Massachusetts, it is illegal to shoot at targets depicting a human -- whether as a figure, effigy or a silhouette -- unless you're a public safety officer performing official duties.

8. In Alabama it is against the law to alter the natural appearance of the teeth of a horse or mule to make the animal appear younger than it actually is.

9. In Alabama anyone performing a marriage rite is entitled to a fee of $2 per marriage.

10. In Alabama it is against the law to exploit a bear by promoting, engaging in or being employed at a bear wrestling match, or by subjecting a bear to surgical alteration of any kind, including, but not limited to, declawing, tooth removal and severing tendons.

Basically Alabama is a crazy place. I think 8 is my favorite...

Barkley Gets DUI

TMZ:Barkley was arrested by the Gilbert Police Department at a DUI checkpoint and had his blood tested on scene by a mobile DUI task force. He was released a short time later and took a taxi home.

I love Charles Barkley but he is going to take a lot of shit for this. no only is the former great/ outspoken basketball personality in trouble with gambling, but this puts the icing on the cake. Many players get bothered by how much he comments about them, now they have plenty of ammo to fire back if need be.

Cowher Power Not Headed To The Jets

I love what Bill Cowher is doing this offseason. He is taking his sweet time and waiting for the perfect job to come to him. He recently said he has no interest in the vacant Jets job, and I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to deal with the bullshit that Favre and the New York media. If I were Denver I would push really hard to get this defensive minded head coach, if you gave him a couple years to toy with the defense he could fix that up real quick. Also, you don't have to worry about the Broncos media being hard on which ever coach replaces local legend Mike Shanahan, because Cowher is already in legendary status.

Need a Head Coach?

There are a lot of head coaching job available in the NFL right now, and there are a lot of rumors about who is going to fill those jobs. There is one name I have yet to hear, and I think would be perfect for the Browns or Broncos, and that is Norm Chow. Chow is known for developing young QBs, such as Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, and Matt Leinart. He has yet to get a head coaching job, but at the very least should be taken in as an assistant coach. He would be great for developing Brady Quinn, or Jay Cutler. I know at the end of his time with the Titans he struggled, but to be honest no one has figure out how to use Vince Young, so I can't completely blame him for that. I really think this guy is the ultimate pro, and could be a real asset for any team looking to bring out all the potential of their young QB.

91 Portland, 86 Celtics

What the fuck Celtics. I let the Lakers loss go, and I made an excuse for the Golden State loss, but this is now starting to be worrisome. The Blazers without star Brandon Roy beat the Boston Celtics mainly due to rebounding. To get outrebounded 44-29 is inexcusable especially when you have two 7 footers in your starting line-up. Also, the bench is starting to worry me as well, they played like shit last night and only scored a total of 7 points. The other day I had all the faith in the world in Tony Allen but now I'm questioning if he can replace Posey. If Posey were on this team this loss wouldn't have ever happened. The Celtics have played like shit on this west coast road trip losing 3-4 games.

They need to get better fast, because I have a feeling they are in a little bit of quicksand right now.

Bruins 5, Penguins 2

Two power play goals and a shorthanded score propelled the Bruins to their 9th straight victory, 5-2 over the reeling Penguins.

The Bruins dominated the contest, even though they didn't lead until halfway through the 2nd. The Penguins knocked in a freak rebound, and Chara gave up the puck to Sidney Crosby at his own blue line, and that's how Pittsburgh scored twice.

But the B's put 40 shots on net and had a majority of the scoring opportunities.

Martin St. Pierre had the shorthanded goal, his first score in a Bruins uniform. He was set-up by Savard who poke-checked a pass, saw St. Pierre was free, and went up the ice 2 on 1. Savard also set up Phil Kessel's goal in the 2nd, and scored one himself earlier in the period. Dennis Wideman also had a goal and 2 assists.

Aaron Ward returned from his ankle injuries and looked decent. Having Ward back gives the Bruins much more depth on the blue line.

The Bruins have 60 points this season. They didn't reach 60 until February 8th of last season. This was also their 12th win in December. The last time the Bruins had 12 wins in one month was 1977.

These two teams meet again Thursday night in Boston. The B's will be looking for their 14th straight home win, and 10th straight overall.

And I hate Michel Therrien, so the more the B's can pile on, the better.

Bowl Predictions Part V

More baseless predictions for you. These are the New Year's Eve games:

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl
Fort Worth, TX
Houston vs. Air Force

Both teams should have good fan support in this one. Houston isn't too far, and there are a lot of Air Force installations in Texas. I just love the Mountain West too much this season to pick against them, especially when they're facing a 7-5 C-USA team. Air Force flies away with this one.

Brut Sun Bowl
El Paso, TX
Oregon State vs. #20 Pittsburgh

There's a big difference between Pasadena and El Paso. Oregon State was rerouted from their potential Rose Bowl trip by rival Oregon and I think they'll be out to prove a point in west Texas. OSU also beat USC earlier this year. Pitt's biggest win was against West Virginia. They also lost to Bowling Green and Rutgers. They needed OT to beat Notre Dame. The Beavers win one for the Pac-10 44-30.

Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl
Nashville, TN
#24 Boston College vs. Vanderbilt

Speaking of teams one win away from a BCS Bowl...

Vanderbilt has the homefield advantage, and they'll need it. The Commodores are 6-6, and they've lost 6 of their last 7, including a 23-10 loss to Wake Forest, and a 10-7 embarrassment to Duke. BC should handle them with ease, but they'll probably find some way to make things difficult. Nevertheless, the Eagles extend their bowl winning streak with yet another triumph in a semi-relevant Bowl.

Insight Bowl
Tempe, AZ
Kansas vs. Minnesota

For some reason people expected Kansas to be really good at football this year. Maybe once more this century it'll happen, but that's gonna be it. Then again, Minnesota's no prize pig. They went 3-5 in the subpar Big Ten. And to be fair to the Jayhawks, even though they're in the Big XII North, they had to play Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma. This was Minnesota's fluffy non-conference schedule:

Northern Illinois
@ Bowling Green
Montana State
Florida Atlantic

KU wins this one with ease. Rock. Chalk. Jayhawk.

Chick-fil-A (Peach) Bowl
Atlanta, GA
#14 Georgia Tech vs. LSU

As bad as the ACC was this season, they've gotten some pretty winnable bowl selections. The Yellow Jackets might have been the best team in the ACC, if not the second best. LSU, on the other hand, was a monumental disappointment, finishing 3-5 in the SEC. Tech also gets to play this one just a few miles from campus. They were 2-0 against SEC teams this season and will improve to 3-0 with a victory over the Tigers.

DC Picks up new Fans

That's right, we have a new endorsement yet again. My girlfriend Alli has run into some awesome celebrities again and brought up DC. Last weekend she was at a Broadway show, 'Jersey Boys' and she texted me saying Bill and Hillary Clinton were in her row a few people down. I responded as follows: "Go over to them at intermission and try to get a pic with em. Tell them to check out Dueling Couches.com. And watch Bills hands". She performed all three of my wishes and Bill said "I'll check it out", Hillary smiled and nodded.

She said the two of them couldn't have been nicer and they even made some people who were taking pictures of them get outta the way so Alli could squeeze through and get a picture with them. I have never been more proud.

Mike Shanahan Out As Broncos Coach

After 10 long years, Mike Shanahan is finally out as coach of the Denver Broncos. This is surprising news to many, however, I believe this is long overdue. He basically had his nameplate engraved in the door since his 97-98 back to back championships and that handcuffed the Broncos to keeping him around. In this "what have you done for me lately" NFL, he had to go. He has been a choke job coach for a while and with all the talent he had on his team it is inexcusable to not make the playoffs. He will have no trouble finding another job because everyone overrates him.

Maybe My Favorite College QB

Just like legends in my mind who preceded him like Brad Smith of Mizzou, Bryan Randall of Virginia Tech, Josh Freeman of K-State, and Tyrod Taylor of Virginia Tech, my new favorite quarterback in college football is Nevada's Colin Kaepernick. I will boldly predict future Heisman candidate and future NFL quarterback. I remember seeing Colin play in his first game starting ever last year when he played Boise State and put up 243 yards passing with 3 TD's and rushing for another 177 yards and 2 scores. This year he threw for over 2,000 yards and ran for over 1,000. He is only going to get better as the years happen.

So with that being said let the 2009 Kaupernick Heisman talks begin.

EJ Manuel in 2010.

Dikembe Mutombo Signs With Rockets

The Houston Rockets have re-signed 42-year-old center Dikembe Mutombo for the rest of the season. The move gives the Rockets an emotional leader and a backup to Yao Ming.

I knew this was going to happen. I knew I was going to get all excited for this guy and he would just re-sign with the Rockets. Mutombo would have been a great defensive center replacement for the Celtics, especially when we played a team with taller centers. However, it was just not going to happen because it would make me too happy.

Celtics Vs Blazers

The Celtics are playing the Blazers tonight to bring their west coast trip to 2-2. This should be a good game IF Greg Oden and Brandon Roy play, however there is a chance that both are out. The Blazers are year away from really scaring me, but for this game (like always) I'm confident the Celtics will win this one. The Celtics have had plenty of rest from the drumming they laid on the Kings the other night and hopefully the Celtics can run up an early big lead to let the starting 5 rest some more. Depending what happens with Roy and Oden, I expect Ray Allen and Kendrick Perkins to have big games.

112-90 Celtics

T.A. goes to Kendrick Perkins

Bruins @ Penguins Preview

The Bruins will be playing the Penguins twice in three days, as they play in Pittsburgh tonight before traveling to Boston for a game on Thursday. The Bruins are trying to win their 4th straight game on the road, and their 9th straight game overall for the first time in 25 years.

The Penguins are only 19-13-4, but they are one of the more dangerous teams in the NHL, as they ran the table all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals (lost to Red Wings in 6 games). Pittsburgh has two of the best offensive players in the NHL in Crosby and Malkin (first and second in the NHL in points). Luckily the Bruins have the 2nd and 3rd ranked goalies in GAA.

Thomas looks to be getting the start tonight, and he has been on fire lately allowing only 2 goals in the last 56 shots he has faced. The Bruins will need solid defense and goaltending to keep Crosby & Co. at bay, but no matter what this should be one of the more exciting games of the young season.

Game starts at 7:30 on NESN.

Economic Impact on Sports

A few months ago I wrote a post about how the lagging economy might affect our favorite sports. I'd like to reintroduce the topic with a few more specific predictions/possibilities for what the future might hold.

Without going into too much detail, the economy sucks right now because there's not enough debt to go around. Companies use debt in order to expand, or even just to run their business day-to-day. Example: A bar uses debt to buy a month's worth of alcohol, which they sell over the course of a month. Without that debt, the bar can't buy the booze, then can't sell it, then it goes out of business. Then all the bar's employees are out of work, they can't buy as much stuff at Best Buy, then Best Buy goes out of business, and so on, and so on.

FEWER BOWL GAMES:
College football's postseason is 34 Bowls deep these days. These Bowls are fueled by corporate sponsorship. But companies are trying to go lean in order to survive, which means cutting advertising and promotions. Furthermore, the attendance at Bowls games has already been down this season, and 2009 might be even worse. People have less money to spend on a trip to Shreveport or Houston to see their favorite team play in the Independence Bowl.

The big games will be fine, and unfortunately, so will the BCS.

THE NHL IS FUCKED:
The NHL is going to have to cut its salary cap in 2 seasons, which will squeeze every good team that's near the max payroll. The League might have to contract teams if it keeps losing money. Teams like the Bruins, Rangers, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, and Red Wings are doing well, and will continue to do well. But the teams down South, and in smaller Canadian markets (Calgary, Alberta, Ottawa) will be going through some tough times, and might be deleted or relocated.

The Phoenix Coyotes have already asked for an advance on their revenue sharing money. They might have to declare bankruptcy. Other NHL teams are in similar predicaments.

SELL! SELL! SELL!
We've already started to see this here in Boston. The New York Times wants to sell their share of the Boston Red Sox, for about half what it used to be worth. Almost every company in the world is desperately trying to generate cash to keep themselves afloat. Selling assets like a sports team is an easy way to get this cash. But who's going to buy?

How do you buy something big like a sports team? By borrowing money (debt). But nobody is lending. And nobody is willing to borrow for something that's essentially a toy for super-rich people to play with (See: Mark Cuban).

THE YANKEES JUST MIGHT GO BANKRUPT:
Right now the Yankees have enough cash, a discounted Stadium all their own, and tons of reliable revenue. They're the only team in baseball that isn't acting as if there's a recession. This off-season they've committed nearly half a billion dollars to players. Right now they're still sitting pretty. But two or three years from now, if the economy hasn't rebounded, they might be royally fucked.

Imagine if half the companies that buy luxury boxes from the Yankees go under, then those posh, expensive cash generating boxes would be nothing but closets with a great view of the field. Season ticket holders are likely to dwindle if the economy stays stagnant. As are the casual fans who go to 3 or 4 games a year with the family. People won't be paying $25 for Derek Jeter t-shirts (although that money is divided among all 30 teams).

The Yankees are committing huge sums of money in a very dangerous economic climate. It's like driving to the mountains during a blizzard. You might make it, and if so, the skiing will be great; but you might get blown off a cliff and explode in a fiery maelstrom of death.

THINGS WILL BE CHEAPER:
Notice how cheap gas is these days? How about all those 40% off sales before Christmas and those 70% sales right after? One good thing about a recession is that prices drop for pretty much everything, especially non-essential and/or recreational things like sports tickets.

What are the odds the Pats increase ticket prices? If anything, they'll go down. And it will be even better for fans in cities with smaller fanbases and less success on the field. If I lived in Florida, I could probably get Marlins tickets for $5 for an entire weekend series. Hell, they might even pay me to go to games.

And imagine the deals you'll get at minor league parks and college games. Can anyone say 50 cent beer night?

Movie Review

Film: Valkyrie
Staring: Tom Cruise
Directed by: Bryan Singer

I liked this movie. It was historically accurate, which i appreciate and it was a story that needed to be told. Hitlers Germany wasn't filled with 100% Jew hating Nazis, in fact the film goes on to tell us that this was only 1 of the 15 total plots to kill Hitler put forth by the German army. I found the story to be very interesting even though you know the outcome before it comes because obviously Hitler didnt get assassinated, he committed suicide like a little bitch.

I read a handful of reviews on this film before i saw it and most of the criticized Cruise's performance, and i disagree with them. He was very effective in the lead role and played the character very well i thought. I think the media just hates on Cruise as much as possible because hes an easy target due to his Scientology beliefs.

All in all, the movie was directed very well and the cinematography was superb. Great special effects and supporting cast, including Tom Wilkerson. If you like history, you will love this film. If you like uplifting stories of triumph and good over evil you might not like it. Like i said its a story that needed to be told on the world stage.

Matt Ryan: Offensive Rookie of the Year

Matt Ryan has won the 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award today. He actually had some stiff competition in my mind from Steve Slaton, but the associated press had Ryan winning it by a landslide. Ryan has been terrific this season, and turned around a franchise that was all but in ruins from the Vick crisis. His stats won't blow you away (16 TDS 11 INTs), but his composure and leadership put him over the top. Good for you Ryan, and have fun with the over 8 million in bonuses you are getting from the Falcons, because you hit basically every incentive in your contract.

Lucic Demoted

Bruins Coach Julien has demoted Milan Lucic from first to third line, after he has failed to record a single shot in each of the two last games. Before this two game stretch fan favorite Lucic has been on a tear, but Julien noticed a problem and decided to jump on it. I agree with the move since if you watch the last two games, you could tell Lucic was throwing off the Bruins most dangerous line, which has Kessel and Savard also on it. I think the change will also be good for the 3rd line. I am not that big of an Axelsson fan, but he has been with the team for a long time, and I think he will be solid enough to lift that first line to where they were. In the long run I think Lucic will be back on the first line, or Marco Sturm (whenever he finally comes back).

MLB Hot Stove

Here is the latest from around the MLB...

- What a difference a day makes. Today the Mets have little to no interest in trading for Andruw Jones (about time they work up).

- Yesterday we told you that the Dodgers were showing interest in Adam Dunn, well today you can add Bobby Abreu to the list. I still think all of this is to put pressure on Manny/Boras to bring their years down.

- Marlins seem to have their eye on Derrick Turnbow. Turnbow is a weird guy to figure out, and struggles with his control. He really hasn't been the same since his breakout season in 2005 when he saved 39 games. Still, if he is cheap the Marlins will be all over him.

- The Mets are after Lowe, Perez, and Wolf. Lowe and Perez are their real plans, while Wolf is their fall back option. I really think Lowe would be a good fit for the Mets, since I consider him more of an NL pitcher.

- Garrett Anderson is finally getting a look. There are two teams after him (Rays, A's). I don't know how much he has left in the tank, but I think he would be a great pickup for the Rays. Don't forget he finished 2nd on the Angels with 84 RBIs.

- (As DP reported earlier) There are rumors that the Sox tried to reacquire Hanley Ramirez. The Marlins stated that they listened, but the price tag would be high for the 25 year old stud SS. Would be awesome to get him back, but I just don't see it happening...

Red Sox Try To Get Hanley Ramirez

The Red Sox tried to re-aquire Hanley Ramirez from the Marlins for Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz. The Marlins graciously declined.

I say fuck yea. We should throw in Bowden, and Lars Anderson in as well. Hanley is a once in a lifetime player and if there was a way we could get him back. We have too. Hanley would solve everything from our everyday SS, to our offensive woes and lead off hitter. So Red Sox listen to me. Offer Ellsbury, Bowden, Buchholz, Lowrie and Anderson for Hanley. We need him.

It's Patriot Bashing Time

As I read more and more about how New England fans are bitching and moaning about how they went 11-5 and didn't make the play-offs the more and more the hatred comes over me. I rooted for Cassel this year and I actually rooted for the Brady-less Pats, even though when number 12 went down many of the "loyal" fans were quick to make remarks saying "what am I going to do on Sundays" or "Now we have to wait until next year." But if you look at it the Patriots don't belong in the playoffs this year. They lost to 4 of 5 AFC playoff teams (Steelers, Colts, Chargers, Dolphins), and their 11 wins were primarily against the terrible teams of the NFL (Bills twice, Cardinals, 49ers, Raiders, Seahawks, Rams, Jets, Dolphins, Chiefs, Broncos). Only two playoff teams in the bunch of the wins (and the Dolphins and Cardinals are both terrible and are most likely one and done).

If anyone believes this Patriots team could hang with any of the play-off teams this year they a sorely mistaken. If anything Patriots fans should be happy they got as far as they did and stop acting like spoiled bitches. At least you got Cassel to be your QB for next year.

Why Not?

Why not be a majority of peoples biggest fears?

Lord Baron Wants To Go Back Home

Baron Davis shocked the Warriors when he fled for the Clippers. Los Angeles might be stunned to learn that he wouldn't mind returning to Golden State.

According to a San Jose Mercury News report on Monday, Warriors guard Stephen Jackson said that his friend expressed a desire to return to the Bay Area where he played for parts of four seasons.

"That's all we talked about," Jackson said, according to the newspaper. "I went to his house, spent some time with his mom and his grandmother. He wants to come back. And if he wants to come back, I want him back."

Well this all could have happened Baron if YOU STAYED IN GOLDEN STATE. But I blame this on my NBA whipping boy this year Elton Brand. If Elton didn't bolt to Philly (ruining their fat pace offense and being the reason Mo Cheeks got canned), the Clippers would have been a much better team. However, without Brand, the Clippers and Kaman and Camby and that is pretty much it. Al Thorton is a young talent but he is not a game breaker. It looks as if a deal were to be made it would be a Corey Maggette (who was a Clipper last year).

Ricky Davis Smokes Pot?

I can't believe Ricky Davis smokes pot??? HAHA, anyways I really don't know if he does or not, but he has been suspended five games yesterday for violating terms of the NBA’s drug program. To be honest, I am kind of shocked this isn't a more regular theme, not that Ricky is a bad guy, but I could definitely see him sitting back with his buddies and passing around a blunt (I mean look at that pic!!!). Actually, the only thing that shocked me about this story was that fact that Ricky Davis is only 29 years old, it feels like he has been in the league forever, and has played for what seems like 20 teams. Davis has had a tough year with the Clippers averaging only 4.3 ppg, and has been troubled with knee problems. I hope everything works out for Davis I have been a fan since his time on the Celtics.

Why Not?

Why not remember Latrell Sprewell at his best?

30 Missouri, 23 Northwestern

What happened to Mizzou this year, and what happened to Chase Daniels? At the beginning of the college football season Chase Daniels was the front runner for the Heisman trophy and Mizzou was a top ranked team. Now they can barely get past Northwestern. Not to take anything away from Northwestern, but Mizzou should have killed them from go and shouldn't have to win in overtime.

The game itself though, was thoroughly exciting. There was no scoring in the forth quarter and in Daniels final game as a college quarterback ended with a TD pass to his favorite target Jeremy Macklin to ultimately win the game.

It will be interesting to see where Daniels ends up in the NFL draft because he could be labeled as a system quarterback. I believe he will be a late first/ early second round pick.

74 Georgetown, 63 UConn

I haven't really started to get into college basketball yet, due to college football, NFL play-offs and MLB free agent signing. With the conference tip offs starting, it's time to pay attention. Yesterday #8 Georgetown visited #2 UConn in a Big East clash. As always UConn is overrated and didn't show up in a big game. Dejuan Summers was the hero for Georgetown scoring 18 points as he led the Hoyas to their seventh straight win. The Hoyas opened the game on an 18-3 run by hitting four of their first five 3-point attempts, then held off Connecticut by making 18 straight free throws in the second half to finish 18-for-21 from the line. Georgetown may be a better team this year than last year even with the departure of DC Endorser Roy Hibbert. I am right back on the Hoyas bandwagon, which probably spells bad luck for them. They are playing another tough game saturday when they take on Pitt.

Pro Bowl Before Super Bowl?

"The Pro Bowl will be played one week before the Super Bowl in 2010 and both games will be staged in Dolphin Stadium, a person directly involved in the decision told The Associated Press on Monday (ESPN)."

DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD. First off there shouldn't even be a Pro Bowl, it should just be an honor to be named to it, you don't actually need to play a game. What they should do instead is do a skill competitions thing. Like longest pass, longest kick, fastest 40 time, ect. How can you possibly play this game 1 week before the Super Bowl? Neither team that plays in the Super Bowl is going to want their players playing, and who can blame them? Listen, no one cares about the Pro Bowl, just get rid of it, you money grubbing whores!

Andruw Jones To Mets?

There are rumors circulating that Andruw Jones may be traded to the Mets in exchange for prospects. The report also states that the Dodgers will have to eat most of Jones contract. I still wouldn't do this deal if I was the Mets. Jones sucks (.158 BA last year), and he is looking like he will never find his stride again. I wouldn't trade Julio Lugo for Andruw Jones, and I would trade Lugo for a sack of balls. For Mets fan's sake I hope this isn't true, but the Mets know how to choke, and make bad deal, which makes me tend to believe the reports.

BTW - I hate the way he spells ANDRUW!

Dodgers Pass On Manny?

"Apparently, the Dodgers aren't going to sit around all winter, waiting for Manny Ramirez to beg to come back. They now have Adam Dunn on their shopping list. The Dodgers contacted Dunn's agent, Greg Genske, over the holidays, according to an executive of a team interested in Dunn. And that creates an intriguing option for both parties (ESPN)."

This could mean one of two things. Either the Dodgers have got sick of Manny's antics, and they have decided to go with a cheaper, less headache route, or this is being put out there to put pressure on Manny to come down in his demands and resign with the Dodgers. I think it is more of the 2nd then the 1st. The Dodgers need Manny, and right now Manny needs the Dodgers, there are not a lot of teams that want to deal with Manny, and I am starting to believe the Yankees are going to be a nonfactor. In the end I still think the Dodgers will resign Manny, but I think it will be for 2 years, and a team option.

The Grinch VS. Hitler

Two of the most notorious villains in the history of mankind face off in this edition of DC VERSUS.

VS

Right off the bat i can anticipate some of you wondering how you can even compare the two. Hitler is way worse, you might say. he is responsible for a mass genocide of multiple races of people in an effort to ethnically 'cleanse' the world on his quest for ultimate world domination. Well thats true....but the Grinch tried to steal christmas....and thats pretty fucked up too.

We must consider the reasons these two might face off and i think i got it. The jews. Hitler, as we know is not a fan. However, i presume the grinch to appreciate Judaism because they dont celebrate christmas either. There are no reports of th Grinch dressing up as a rabbi and sneaking in to steal Hanukkah presents. So there they would most likely butt heads.

Hitler used his skills in rhetoric to sway a nation into following him on his reign of terror, the Grinch rhymed alot....its a tie.

If the two of them were to face off you must also consider the fact that Hitler fought till the death in WWII while the Grinch was brainwashed by the 'Whos' into giving up his hatred. This makes me feel like hitler might have an advantage since he is a skilled orator and might be able to convince the grinch that hes wrong.

--Side note--
lets all thank our lucky stars these two never had a chance to team up.

The hatred within each of these villains is undeniable. The grinch hates the Whos very much, while Hitler hated pretty much everything. In this battle I have to give the advantage to Adolph. I pains me to say it, but as we all know the Grinch is destined to come along and eventually see that his hatred for christmas and the whos is wrong, while Hitler wont stop until he kills the Grinch and then executes each one of the Whos.

this VERUS hurt my heart, and i dont want to think about hitler this much for a long time.

Red Sox Rumors

As DP reported earlier the Sox have signed Bard and Penny, he is a look at the rest of the rumors going around.

-Apparently Bard is not enough for the Sox, as there are rumors that the Sox are in contract negotiations with Jason Varitek. No word to how close they are.

- Josh Beckett is feeling well, and seems to have recovered from the injury that bothered him most of last season.

- Mark Kotsay has had trouble finding a home, so the Red Sox could be in the running to bring him back as a 4th outfield/backup 1st baseman.

- Still some reports that the Sox may be interested in Derek Lowe. I don't believe it, but the Sox do like to have a lot of pitching depth, and Wake and/or Penny are sure to go down at some point this season.

- Youk contract negotiations are no closer, and it is looking more and more likely that Youk will sign 1 year deals till he can become a free agent, so that he can receive top dollar.

Patriot Thoughts

I have calmed down, and finally got a little time during work to get my thoughts straight, about the shenanigans with the Patriots.

- It blows they are not in the playoffs. 11-5 is a fantastic record, that most teams would die for. Shit happens though, it just sucks a team like the Chargers/Cardinals made it.

- I still believe the Patriots are better then the Dolphins.

- I know everyone in New England wants to Favre retire, but I don't. If he is playing we all know the jets won't win the Super Bowl, the guy chokes in every pressure game he has been in for at least the last 5 years.

- The Eric Mangini firing kind of takes my hatred away the Jets, another reason I will be rooting for Favre to come back, because it will keep my hatred for them high.

- Fuck the Jaguar, they didn't even put up a fight.

- At least the Pats will have decent draft pick. LB or CB?

- Even though they didn't make the playoffs this was one of Belichick's best coaching seasons since their first Super Bowl.

- If Cassel leaves (which I think he will) I bet he goes to the Vikings, but it would be interesting if the Jets went after him...

- If Brady never plays another snap is he a Hall of Famer...I think so.

- How long until pitcher and catchers report.

- Bruschi, Seau, Harrison....Thank you for your service please retire.

Another Tony Romo Shower Moment

As BMack reported earlier this season Tony Romo may or may not have broke his pinky finger diddeling Zack Thomas' butt. However this latest incident proves that Thomas may have got his sweet revenge:
"As someone who was standing there watching this whole scene unfold, I can tell you the players were shocked. They didn't know what to do. Deon Anderson went out running for emergency help, but Maurer and associate athletic trainer Britt Brown were all over it.

Adam Jones, of all people, was standing there yelling at me, another reporter and a TV camera man to get back. Let me tell you, running into the shower was the last place we needed to be at that moment. When asked later what happened, Romo said, "Um, you know, I was just a little banged up, I guess."

Looks like some more homo erotic behavior happened in the Cowboys locker room.

Oh yea. I'm saying Romo got raped.

Eric Mangini Fired

Another day, another Pats ex coordinator out of a job. Today Eric Mangini got rightfully fired from the New York Jets after missing the play-offs the once highly touted coach seemed to have lost grip of his team the past couple of years. The reason he got fired is none other than Brett Favre. If Favre never got traded to the Jets and if they hung onto Chad Pennington, the Jets would have made the playoffs.

Now this opens the door for a slew of coaches. My prediction is that Bill Cowher will be in Jets green next year. Cowher would be a perfect fit, plus I don't want to see him in the AFC North.

Also, Rod Marinelli got fired from Detroit. Obvious move, he went 0-16.

Brady Injury Update

As if news for the Patriots could get any worse after being eliminated from the playoffs with an 11-5 record, the Pats got news yesterday that Brady has fallen behind in his recovery efforts. There is a build up of scar tissue in his knee, which may require another surgery. If that surgery is needed, it would put the 2009 season in to question. This report has been challenged today by the Globe, and people close to Brady, they are saying that the rehabilitation is going as planned.

I don't really know what to believe, but this is something Patriot fans will need to keep a close eye on, as a decision on what to do about Matt Cassel will need to be made early in the offseason. I still think Cassel is going to be a free agent, and now on the Patriots in 2009.
