Offense:
The Chargers used to be a running team, but over the past couple of years Rivers has taken over. Rivers will be looking for his third straight 4,000-yard season, if he is able to do this he will become only the 2nd QB in San Diego history to do so. The Chargers lost LT, which most people don't think is a big deal, but he did have 10 TDs last year, so it has to have some effect. Yet, the Chargers are really high on their first round pick Ryan Mathews. I think he will be good enough, but I do question their WRs. Jackson is suspended to start the season, and I really have a bad feeling that he might have a tough year. Gates is great, and will be a top TE again this year. The good news is their offensive line is good enough that no matter who is out there Rivers will have the time to find them.
Defense:
Jamal Williams was the anchor of this defense, and now he is gone. The Chargers hope rookie Cam Thomas can take over, but I think that is asking a lot. Merriman is fucking terrible now, and he wouldn't even be on this team if it wasn't an uncapped year. The loss of Antonio Cromartie will be tough to handle, but Antoine Cason should do a decent job taking his spot. There are a lot of changes to this defense, and I think it could be their downfall.
Overall:
This team knows how to win in the regular season. There is no doubt about that, but I think they take a step back this year, and will have another early exit from the playoffs.
