It's really sad that even if the Red Sox win tonight they only split the series with the Indians. I would think they have a good shot doing that with Dice-K on the hill vs. Josh Tomlin, but at this point what do I know?
Matsuzaka will try to earn his 3rd straight win tonight. He is 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA in his last three starts against the Indians, including a 4-1 win June 7 in which he gave up four hits over eight scoreless innings. He's 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA in his last four outings overall but was a little shaky in his most recent start (4 runs and 7 hits over 6 innings against Detroit). The Indians do not have a good lineup, so Dice-K should be able to have a strong start, but with him (and the Red Sox) you just never know.
Josh Tomlin will try to help the Indians to their first series win over the Red Sox in four years and first in Boston in five years. Tomlin won his major league debut against the Yankees, then allowed 1 run and 4 hits over 5 1/3 innings in a 2-1 victory at Toronto. Tomlin won't overpower you, but he has good control (only 2 BB in 2 games), and mixes his pitches well.
Boston wins 6-3
Player of the Game: Ortiz
Game starts at 7:10pm on NESN.
