NHL Investigates Marc Savard's Contract

Marc Savard's contract is being investigated in the NHL after it nixed Ilya Kovalchuk contract with the Devils. Tne NHL is worried that teams have found a way to get around the salary cap by signing long contracts that are front loaded.

This causes a lot of problems for the Bruins. Savard will make $7 million this season but his cap hit is only $4 million. So if this deal is nixed, any other deal with the Bruins will likely carry a bigger cap hit. So the options are either to dump cap space and try to keep him, sign him then try to trade him or to simply let him walk via unrestricted free agency.

I don't think any of this will happen, because his contract is much different then Ilya Kovalchuk. Still, the Bruins are also not going to be able to trade him until this is resolved, since no other NHL team will want to deal with all this.

Hopefully this is figured out quickly.
