The Red Sox had a big win last night, but they need to get on a roll soon if they want to keep their postseason hopes alive. It doesn't really get any easier as the Sox head to Toronto. The Blue Jays are 7-3 in their last 10 games, and are riding a 3 game winning streak.
Tonight we get to see Dice-K vs. Ricky Romero. Dice-K has been one of the Red Sox best pitchers over the last month or so. He is 4-0 with a 2.01 ERA in his last seven road starts, and has killed the Jays in his career going 6-1 with a 3.45 ERA. The key though will be how deep in the game Dice-K can go. The Sox bullpen is so bad that they really need all their pitchers to go 7 innings, and it can't be more true tonight since Bard and Papelbon pitched yesterday in New York. Dice-K has only pitched over 6 innings once in his last 7 starts, but last time out he did go 9 innings. He was able to do that because he relied on his fastball, which had more life then normal. Hopefully that will be true tonight.
Romero is 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA in 4 starts since being lit up for 9 runs in a career low 2 1/3 innings during a 14-3 loss to the Red Sox on July 9th. The Red Sox have regularly roughed up Romero, who is 1-4 with an 8.76 ERA in 6 starts against them (his most losses and highest ERA against any opponent).
I am concerned about the Sox bullpen tonight, but I still think they will in.
Red Sox win 8-5
