Red Sox @ Blue Jays Preview

The Red Sox have had a tough season, but one team they have been able to dominate is the Toronto Blue Jays. The Sox are 8-2 against them this year, and have won 6 of 7 at the Jays stadium, which is impressive since the rest of the AL East is only 3-12 when traveling north of the boarder.

Still, tonight is going to be a tough game. The Jays have Shawn Marcum on the mound, and he has had one hell of a comeback year (10-5 with a 3.44 ERA). He will be facing Buchholz, which he faced earlier in the year at Fenway while throwing 7 scoreless innings.

Buchholz is 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA in his last 3 starts, posting 7 1/3 strong innings in a 6-3 win over the Yankees on Friday night. In three starts at Toronto since the start of last year (all wins) Buchholz has a 1.37 ERA.

The trouble is the Boston offense and bullpen. The Sox never seem to win if their starters lets up more then 4 runs, so it is important that Buccholz is real sharp tonight. He is also going to need to pitch deep into this game. My guess is that Papelbon will not be available tonight after pitching in the last 2 games. That leaves Bard as the closer tonight, and a bunch of poop backing him up. I still got the Sox winning though...

Red Sox win 5-2
Player of the Game: Beltre
Game starts at 7:07pm on NESN.
