Breaking News: Sox get Victor Martinez (2 UPDATES)
"A source confirms to FoxSports's Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal that the Sox are on the verge of acquiring Martinez. Still no word on what the Sox will be giving up.
According to a tweet by USA Today baseball writer Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox are about to acquire Victor Martinez from the Indians. We'll have more on this report if/when it can be confirmed.
According to the FoxSports report, the Martinez deal is straight-up between the Red Sox and Indians with no third team is involved. The report also notes that the deal will "almost certainly end" the Red Sox's pursuit of Gonzalez, who is likely to remain in San Diego (Boston.com)."
We will get more word on what the Sox gave up very soon. My guess is that it is probably Buchholz or Bowden. Great move for the Sox. Now they can play less Tek, while still giving some time off for Lowell. I am so excited......but we'll have more very soon!!!!
***UPDATE***
"FoxSports reports that "the Indians' exact return is not known, but the Red Sox did not include either righthander Clay Buchholz nor righthander Daniel Bard in the deal, according to a source (Boston.com)."
According to our very own Scan it's Masterson and Hagadone. I'll confirm that in the next couple of mins....
Boston.com just confirmed what Scan reported (way to be!!!), but there might also be additional prospects, but they are expected to be low level. Materson and Hagadone are the two main pieces...
***UPDATE 2***
Final deal is V-Mart for Justin Masterson and Bryan Price and Nick Hagadone.
