Red Sox Trade For Brian Anderson (UPDATED)
"The Red Sox today traded for righthanded hitting White Sox outfielder Brian Anderson, a major league source confirmed. What is still unclear is what the Red Sox will send to Chicago in exchange for Anderson, who is hitting .238 with two homers on the season and was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on July 20. It is also unclear is whether Anderson will be added to the 25-man Red Sox roster or whether he will be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket (Boston.com). "
Don't really have a lot to say about this trade, because I see it as nothing more then organizational depth. Anderson is nothing special, but he can be a good defensive replacement in case Ellsbury were to go down, but expect him to the in the minors for the most part. We'll have more on this when the Sox announce who they gave up.
***UPDATE***
According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com the White Sox have acquired (OF/1B) Mrk Kotsay in return for Brian Anderson.
It makes sense there was no room on this team with LaRoche joining the squad, but I will miss Kotsay's wife....
