A's @ Red Sox Preview (UPDATED)
The Sox have their ace on the hill tonight, but you know he has to be worried about the run support (or lack there of) that he will be getting. The Sox have dropped 6 of 6 to fall 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees, and they have scored more than 3 runs just once over that span. In short, they can't hit shit right now.
All the Sox best hitters are playing like shit. Bay is batting .159 (14 for 88) in his last 26 games, and he's been held without an RBI in his last 12. Youkilis is 0 for 11 with four strikeouts in his last three games.
The good news is that they shouldn't need many runs tonight to get past the A's. Beckett has pitched 7 innings or more in 5 out of his last 6 games (2 were complete games). He has been unreal with an 11-4 record and a 3.42 ERA, but he is going to need to continue his dominance tonight.
The A's counter with youngster Brett Cahill who is 6-8 on the year with a 4.80 ERA. He has a very bright future in the MLB, and is just another great A's minor league pitcher making his mark. Cahill is capable of having a great outing, and with the way the Sox are swinging the bats that makes me nervous.
Game starts at 7:10 on NESN.
