A's @ Red Sox Preview
Well there have been plenty of distractions for the Sox today. First Dice-K shoots off his mouth, then the Sox do the same, then they make a trade for a nobody, and then on top of it all they make an offer for Roy Halladay. Oh yea, there is a baseball game today...
The Sox got their bats going last night, but lets see if they can do it consistently. Tonight Clay Buchholz will face Vin Mazzaro. Clay had a good first outing against the Jays, but was far less impressive in his 2nd start against Texas. He only managed to go 4 2/3 innings letting up 3 runs. Tonight he faces a far less potent offense in the A's. The big thing for Clay will be his command. He has been letting up too many walks, and in the MLB if you are walking guys you are running the risk of getting lit up. So, if he throws strikes he should be fine tonight, as the A's are only batting .250 as a team on the season.
Boston has won it's last 3 games against the A's. Oakland is going to have to lean on Vin Mazzaro who is winless in his last 7 starts. He could have his work cut out for him if the Sox keep their offense going. Ellsbury has four straight multi-hit games and Dustin Pedroia is batting .403 in his last 17 games, so if guys like Bay and Youk can get it going this game could get ugly real quick.
Lowell is back in the lineup tonight, and Varitek gets his 2nd day off in 3 games. Here is a look at the rest of the lineup....
1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
4. David Ortiz, DH
5. Jason Bay, LF
6. J.D. Drew, RF
7. MIke Lowell, 3B
8. George Kottaras, C
9. Nick Green, SS
Games starts at 7:10pm on NESN.
