Top 25 Under 25: #24 Matt Kemp

Matt Kemp

Born: September 23, 1984

Kemp attended Midwest City High School in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He wasn't just a great baseball player, but he also played basketball. Kemp was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 6th round of the 2003 draft. He did great in the minors. In AA .327 with 7 homers, 34 RBIs and 11 steals and was quickly promoted, and the major knocked on his doors in September 2006 when the Dodgers rosters were expanded.

2007 started tough for Kemp when he went down with an injury, but when he was finally able to get healthy (around mid June) he went off batting .342 hit 10 home runs, and drove in 42 runs, which is really impressive since he was splitting time with Andre Ethier.

In 2008 he finally broke the starting lineup and he showed by he deserves to be on our list. He batted .290 with 18 HRs 76 RBIs and 35 SBs. Not bad for a kid who was only 23 years old. This year he has only grown as a player batting .314 with 13 HRs 55 RBIs and 21 SBs in only 97 games.

It is too bad that he is 24 years old and this will be his only year on this list. He is a special player, and even though he is overshadowed by players like Manny Ramirez he is really one of the keys to the Dodgers team.

THE LIST:
#25: Derrick Rose
#24: Matt Kemp
