Phillies Trade For Cliff Lee
"The Phillies are not getting Roy Halladay. But the pitcher they are getting just happens to be the reigning American League Cy Young award winner. The Phillies have reached agreement on a trade that would bring them left-hander Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco from the Indians for Class A right-hander Jason Knapp, Class AAA right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson, according to major-league sources. The deal, which does not include any cash, is pending a review of medical records. If completed, it will be a coup for both the Phillies and Indians (FoxSports)."
What a great deal for the Phillies. They get Lee without having to give up left-hander J.A. Happ, right-hander Kyle Drabek or outfielder Dominic Brown all of whom is what the Jays wanted for Halladay. The Phillies were already playoff team, but now they really could make it back-toback Championships.
It isn't a terrible deal for the Indians that obviously need to rebuild. They get 4 of the Phillies' top 10 prospects according to Baseball America's rankings. Carrasco was rated 2nd, Marson 3rd, Donald 4th and Knapp 10th.
I think Lee is going to be even better in the NL and with the offense that the Phillies have he should have a real good shot at adding a lot of victories to his resume.
