A's @ Red Sox Preview

Sox are playing a day game today, but I am sitting in the Hancock Tower right now and it is raining hard, so this game may not be starting till late...

Today (or maybe tonight) Jon Lester will take the hill. There have really only been two constants since the All-Star break, and that is the play of Jon Lester and Josh Beckett. Lester has a 1.83 ERA since May 31 which leads all AL starters. He's 6-2 in that 10 game span with a .202 opponents' BA and 84 K's over 69 innings all of which is fucking impressive. The Sox are going to need him to be on top of his game, as they have dropped 8 of 12 since the All-Star break, including the last 2 games in this series to fall 3 1/2 games behind surging Yankees.

The A's counter with Gio Gonzalez. Gio was supposed to be the next great pitcher from Oakland, but has never been able to put it together in the majors. He can be wild at times, but can also rack up some K's. He is a hard guy to figure out since last time out he was nasty going 6 2/3 innings letting up only 1 run on 2 hits with 6 K's against the Yankees, but the start before that he was lit up for 11 runs by the Twins. So, who know what this guy is going to do.

Here is a look at the Sox lineup for today's game...

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
4. Jason Bay, LF
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Mike Lowell, 3B
7. J.D. Drew, RF
8. Jason Varitek, C
9. Nick Green, SS

Game starts at 1:35pm (hopefully) on NESN.
