I know very little about the Cardinals farm system, but this deal overall makes sense for both sides. The Jays just cut Ryan and ate his salary, and they are quickly falling out of the playoff picture. All these are signs that they want to cut payroll. Halladay will not resign with them, and they should take this chance to grab as many prospects as they can. Plus in this deal they would be sending him to the NL, which I think they will try to do before even talking to any AL team.
