John Madden Retires
"John Madden is calling it quits. NBC said Thursday that the burly ex-coach who has been one pro football's top broadcast analysts has decided to retire. Madden, 73, has been working for the past three seasons on NBC's Sunday night NFL game. His last telecast was the Super Bowl between Arizona and Pittsburgh. Since he left coaching in 1979, the former Oakland Raiders coach has worked as an analyst for all four broadcast networks. His Madden NFL Football is the top-selling sports video game of all time. Madden is reluctant to fly and often traveled to games in a specially equipped bus. He said in a statement that he still loves all aspects of the job, "but I know this is the right time (Sportsline)."
This makes sense since Brett Favre retired, and now John Madden didn't have anything to jizz over during every game (even if Favre wasn't playing in it). Anyways, I know a lot of people shit on this guy, but I have to say I actually liked him. There were a couple years he bothered, like when the Patriots played the Rams in the Super Bowl, but overall I found him entertaining. It will be weird not hearing his voice next season, and seeing what ridiculous bus he is taking to get to each game. So, at least from me John Madden I wish you the best, but I guarantee he'll be dead within two years.
