Perhaps the best day of the playoffs so far. A trio of 3-2 games, one series made more interesting, another all but finished.
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS 6, PITTSBURGH PENGUINS 3
(Pittsburgh leads series 2-1)
Evgeni Malkin scored twice for the Penguins, but they only scored on 1 of their 7 power play opportunities, and Fleury let in 5 of 29 shots against. Simon Gagne also had 2 goals, one shorthanded (Philly had the most shorties in the NHL this season), and one empty-netter. This series just got complicated.
VANCOUVER CANUCKS 3, ST. LOUIS BLUES 2
(Vancouver leads series 3-0)
Every game in this series has been entertaining and very closely fought. But at no point has St. Louis looked remotely in control, of the game or themselves. Twice in this game, they negated would-be power plays with stupid after the whistle antics. And for the second time in the series, they failed to score on a lengthy 5-on-3 power play (which was followed by 2:30 of 5-on-4, and also was scoreless). Roberto Luongo looks good, but St. Louis hasn't had the attitude of a playoff team.
NEW JERSEY DEVILS 3, CAROLINA HURRICANES 2 (OT)
(New Jersey leads series 2-1)
Zach Parise has 3 goals in this series, and added an assist on Travis Zajac's game winning goal 5 minutes into the overtime. If the Devils were actually interesting to watch, this series would seem interesting. But the Devils are 2-1 up, and they did it without Jamie Langenbrunner.
ANAHEIM DUCKS 3, SAN JOSE SHARKS 2
(Anaheim leads series 2-0)
The Sharks were 32-5-4 at home this season. That's losing 1 in 9 games. That's what makes Anaheim's feat even more impressive. They've taken 2 games from the best team in hockey in the hardest building for a visiting team to play in. Jonas Hiller stopped 42 of 44 shots in his 2nd career playoff game (his first was a shutout). The Sharks are in danger of once again exiting early.
