Red Sox @ Rangers Preview

Two straight defeats have the Red Sox clinging to a small lead atop the AL East. Tonight the Sox will see Smoltz go against Millwood. Millwood has been having a nice year, but lately is starting to fall apart. He has let up 17 runs over his last 3 starts (17 1/3 innings). Hopefully this will help get their offense going, because it has been struggling bad lately.

Smoltz had his first win in a Red Sox uniform last time out, and he will look to build on that 1 run 5 inning performance. The good news is that Boston has won six of its last seven games in Arlington, and are averaging over 7 runs during those games.

What Boston really needs is guys like Jason Bay to step up. Papi has got it going over the past month or so, but Bay just can't seem to get it going. Hopefully the Sox playing in Texas where a lot of runs are usually scored will be enough to get Bay and the rest of the Sox going...

Game starts at 8:05 on NESN.
