"The Boston Globe reports that John Smoltz will be ready to face batters as part of his right shoulder rehab soon. Smoltz will travel with the Red Sox on their upcoming West Coast trip. When the team returns, he is scheduled to head to Florida. "He's doing very well," manager Terry Francona said. "Champing at the bit. He should be, the way he's throwing. He should be excited (Sportsline)."
Things seem to be going well for Smoltz. There was a little bit of a scare last time we reported about him, because he said his arm felt a little funny, but he later said that he meant it just felt funny to be throwing off a mound again. Smoltz would be a huge addition to this club if he is anything like he was a couple years ago. The Sox will bring him back slowly, but he should be pitching for them by June 1st.
