Two overtimes and a shutout punctuated Friday night's games. A pair of teams also took 2-0 leads in their series.
PITTSBURGH PENGUINS 3, PHILADELPHIA FLYERS 2 (OT)
(Pittsburgh leads series 2-0)
Former Bruins and pride of Wilbraham, MA Billy Guerin had 2 goals, including the OT winner. The deciding score came on a 5-on-3 power play, which made me laugh. Philadelphia- the most penalized team in the NHL - lives by the sword, and now they're dying by the sword. I did feel bad for goalie Martin Biron, who stopped 46 shots and deserved a better fate.
CAROLINA HURRICANES 2, NEW JERSEY DEVILS 1 (OT)
(Series tied 1-1)
The Canes earned a split in Jersey. Zach Parise scored his 2nd goal of the series for the Devils, but they couldn't muster anymore offense than that. If I had to choose between highlights of this game, or highlights of dry paint getting dryer, I'd choose the paint.
VANCOUVER CANUCKS 3, ST. LOUIS BLUES 0
(Vancouver leads series 2-0)
Roberto Luongo has allowed 1 goal in his last 260 minutes in net. That's 13 periods and only 1 goal. Dayum. This was also his first career playoff shutout. Mats Sundin had a goal, and got a black eye. Every time I take a "What NHL player are you?" quiz on Facebook, it always says I'm Mats Sundin, so I guess he's my soulmate or something. It was his 36th career playoff goal.
